BERLIN—(J. T. A.).—A memor-
andum describing the Zionist position
in Palestine and explaining the need
of British aid in facilitating the re-
construction of the Jewish Homeland
has been submitted by the Zionist
Executive Committee to the British
Colonial Office, Nahum Sokolow
informed the Greater Actions Com-
mittee in seim-annual meeting here.
The presentation of this memoran-
dum followed the report Dr. Weiz-
mann made to his colleagues on the
Zionist Executive' ommittee after his
return from Palestine. The colonial
office was urged to remove restric-
tions hindering the Zionist progress
in Palestine, Mr. Sokolow declared.
Removal of the head office of the
Palestine Foundation Fund from
London to Jerusalem is urged in
cabled resolutions received by Zion-
ist leaders from the National Execu-
tive Committee of the Zionist Organ-
ization of America and from the
American directors of the fund, the
American Zionists insisting that the
elimination of the London office of
the Keren Ilayesod will result in a
considerable saving of expenditure.

WHO CAN ESCAPE?

Once King Solomon had two scribes,
Elihoreph and Ahijah, whom he
loved dearly, and they were to him
as his own sons. And it happened
that the wise king, who could read
the future in the stars, saw that his
servants were doomed to die within
forty days. And he was grieved in
his heart, since he loved them so
tenderly, and he summoned them be-
fore him, saying:
"My faithful servants you are
doomed to die within forty days, but
I would have you escape the sword
of the Angel of Death; therefore,
make you ready for a long journey,
and I will bid the birds to fly before
you until you reach the City of Luz,
where death never comes. There you
will be safe and will not die."
Then the scribes took food and
garments, and all things necessary for
their journey. And they set nut in
great haste for the fear of death was
upon them. They were fearful of
pausing on the road, even for rest
or refreshment, for they said, one
to the other: The way to the City
of Luz is long, and the time allowed
for our journey is short. Therefore,
let us hasten that we may reach the
city of safety before the forty days
have passed."

So, pausing not in their journey,
and breathless and well-nigh ex-
hausted with haste, they passed
through cities and deserts, over moun-
tains and through valleys, until, at
the end of the fortieth day, the white
towers of the City of Luz came in
sight. And their hearts rejoiced that
they had reached the city of refuge
before it was too late.
At length they approached the mar-
ble portals which gleamed rosy in
the sunset. They saw that there were
no guards before the gates, but, as
they drew near and were about to
enter into the city where death never
comes, they saw standing before them
a great shrouded figure with a shining
sword in its hand. And the creature
of the City of Luz spoke to them,
that blocked their path at the gate
saying: "I am the Angel of Death,
and I have waited for you to come
to me. For, the command was laid
upon me to take your souls at this
moment, and in this place." Then as
the two frightened travelers gazed at
each other in horror and surprise, the
figure with the sword continued: "In
no other place on earth than at the
gate of the City of Luz could I have
taken your souls, for the Lor d
in Whose hands are both life and
death bade me slay you here in this
very gate. And your master, King
Solomon, who thought to save you,
served no• instead by sending you to

die here at the appointed hour."
