One of the most successful concerts
of the popular series of last season
was a program of dance music given
by Mr. Kolar. Sir. Kolar, who is •
Slav by birth, feels instinctively dance
rhythms which is not true of every
conductor and those who have heard
him conduct ballet music and Strauss
waltzes know he has a real genius for
this kind of music. Ile is giving an-
other such program in Orchestra hall
this Sunday afternoon. It is one very
carefully chosen and should give great
delight.

Lovers of the high voice in its very
best estate will welcome the coming
to Detroit of Maria Ivogun, the Hun-
garian soprano, who is to be the soloist
at the symphony concerts next Thurs-
day and Friday evenings, Starch 8
and 9. Madame Ivogun is a true
daughter of the Magyars. Sjill on the
sunny side of thirty her career has
been spent chiefly in Munich where
she has for the past half dozen years
been the principal coloratura soprano
and last season and part of this she
has done a large amount of concert
work in this country. Madame vo-
gun has been Bruno Walter's, so to
say, right bower in his famous per-
formances of Mozart in Munich. Mis-
cha Leon, the distinguished Paris
critic, after hearing her in Munich
last summer, wrote to the London
Morning Post that she was the most
perfect Mozart interpreter he ever
heard. "Her song is music in its
purest form—it comes from distant
and unreal regions, chaste and ir-
resistibly charming. With the rapid-
ity of lightning her voice-color
changes according to her mood. No
human feeling transformed into tones
is unfamiliar to Maria lemon. To-
gether with Mozart she becomes two
souls in one vibration, inseparable as
the stars are from their beams."
Madame Ivogun is not altogether un-
known in Detroit. She came here a
year ago unannounced and unheralded
and gave a recital to a comparatively
small audience, but those that heard
her were entranced with the charm of
her singing,
