A large number of Jassy Jews were severely beaten and three were
wounded when a mob of students attacked a demonstration arranged by
Jews as a protest against the wave of violent anti-Semitism sweeping over
the country. The object of the parade was to point out the need for gov-
ernment protection of the Jews, who, the leaders declare, have been made
the object of nation-wide aggression in order to repeal the constitutional
clauses guaranteeing their complete enfranchisement. Regrets over the
occurrence of this and similiar outrages have been expressed by Minister
of Education Anghelescu, who has threatened to close the higher schools
throughout the country unless the students desist from acts of violence.

A memorial tablet was unveiled in Budapest by Dr. Alexander Le-
derer, vice-president of the Budapest Jewish community, in memory of
Dr. Ignaz Goldzieher, the famous Orientalist, and the well known historian,
Chief Rabbi Dr. Samuel Kohn. A tombstone also has been raised in the
Jewish cemetery to the memory of the Jewish Deputy Alexander Poto. Ex-
Minister for Justice Deputy Wilhelm Vaszonyi delivered the address at the
graveside. He mentioned that Deputy Pets had come to take part in the
sitting of the National Assembly from his deathbed, when he heard that
the numerus clausus bill was coming up for discussion. When the division
was doled, Peto cried out: "You have the power to do this, but not the

Circulars containing unheard-of accusations against Jews and inciting
the population to violence against them were distributed in Berlin in thou-
sands of copies by members of hte National Socialists of Bavaria, headed
by Adolph Hitler, called the "Bavarian Musolini." The broadcasting of
these circulars coincided with announcements that 10 anti-Semitic meetings
were to be held at Munich under the auspices of the National Socialists,
and five counter demonstrations to protest against the anti-Semitic meet-
ings of the Fascisti arranged by the Social Democrats. The clash precipi-
tated Tuesday by Hitler's "National Socialists" at Golpingen Wuertemberg
with communists resulted in 12 casualties, of which five are reported to
be grave. • • • •

Notwithstanding the denial of the person, concerned, the Sueddeutsche
Demokratische Korrespondenz asserts emphatically that prominent indus-
trial and financial leaders in Germany are making possible the "National
Socialist" movement, notably the Fascist' agitation headed by Adolph Hit-
ler, the "Bavarian Mussolini." Hitler has arrived in Munich at the head
of 5,000 Fascisti, who threatened the regular trainmen who refused to carry
them. Hitler was enthusiastically received by crowds estimated at 100,000
persons, who cheered and sang as he announced he had 6,000 shock troops
in his force to "recover the Fatherland from the unrepresentative govern-
ment." These demonstrations, which have become weekly fatures with the
Bavarian Fascist', are causing Munich Jews grave concern.

The fault with the existing condition
is not that there are too many organi-
zations, but that they are not Jewish
enough to call united action on the
part of all of them. With hardly an
exception, the average Jewish order,
in its educational and Jewish endeav-
ors, cuts so small a figure as to be-
come totally unimportant to the wel-
fare of the community at large. Just
for the sport of it, if you will look
over the list of speakers who have ad-
dressed the average so-called repre-
sentative order in the past year, you
will find that 90 per cent of the speak-
ers and their talks had no connection
with Jews or any bearing on Jewish
problems. It seems as if a talk on
France or Germany, or a discussion
on some general subject, the bigger
portion of which has been more than
covered in the daily press, will be pre-
ferred to anything dealing with a
question of Jewish interest. This is
an unfortunate yet generally prevail.
ing condition, and no greater good
could be served the Jews than the
adoption of a general Jewish program
by every Jewish organization, that
our people may become better ac-
quainted with their present position in
the world. Regardless of the amount
of news that is being disseminated
throughout the world by news agen-
cies, the greater portion of them seem
to remain unread and a campaign of
education is an absolute necessity.

and that his one ambition is to settle
in Palestine, as is the desire of his
family. He told me all this when I

wasn't, because his mother won't come

they are to be subjected to further op-

against it in a land of their own. So
his mother, and his older brother, who
are the only remaining members of

himself was already a member of the

All he had to do was to pass the He-

been placed on the pioneers' waiting

youth, affected by war conditions, he
has matured years too early and his
mind is set. Benny spoke with deter.

that spells accomplishment for an
ideal.
