Pastor Maurenbrecher, formerly a Social Democrat, now an avowed
anti-Semite, who is editing the Deutsche Zeitung, has been acquitted of the
charge that by his incessant attacks upon Jews he incited one class of the
population to violence upon another. Although punishment of three months
in prison was asked by the state, the court did not sustain the request. The
liberal press in Berlin expresses astonishment over this "remarkable ac-

The Palestine Land Development Company issued a prospectus stating
that a large plot of 6,000 dunams of Mount Carmel belonging to the com-
pany is now open for sale. It is proposed that a garden city be built at
the western part of this plot. The greater part of the central and southern
areas, comprising some 4,500 dunams, have already been sold to a group
of inhabitants of Haifa and to the "Herbert Samuel" Achuzah of Bucarest.
The remaining western area is considered to be one of the most beautiful
spots in Palestine. It is well intersected by roads and fine avenues and
commands a magnificent view of the Mediterranean. The prices of building
plots in that area are from f15 to 5200 per 1,000 square meters. Inquiries
for further particulars should be addressed to the Palestine Land Develop-

The British National Political League entertained at a luncheon Prince
Habib Lotfallah, who is proceeding from London to Washington to act
there as Minister to King llussein of Iledjaz. Ten members of Parliament
attended the luncheon. Prince Lotfallah expressed the hope that the estab-
lishment of the new British government will mean a new era for the Arabs.

Jewish possibilities in the rebuilding
of the land as the Jewish home. Dr.
Ruppin points out very clearly how
it is possible to make the land self-
supporting and how the Jews can at-
tain a majority of the population.
The biggest obstacle that appears in
the way of the Jew in his efforts in
behalf of Palestine is the very small
proportion of the land that is owned
by Jews. While there are 120,000
Jews in Palestine, forming close to
25 per cent of the population, these
own only 3t5 per cent of the entire
land in Palestine, or, to be exact, only
700,000 dunams of land. This is a
sad fact and is to the disgrace of our
people. One of the chief duties con-
fronting us today is undoubtedly the
task of buying more land in Pales-
tine and populating it with Jewish
ioneers. Now particularly, the Jew-
I sh National Fund, which is the land
buying agency for Palestine, becomes
an important institution for redeem-
ing our soil for our people. But, as
Dr. Ruppin points out, it is equally
important that individual Jews buy
land there and help in redeeming the
soil for the Jew. The Jewish National
Fund has ranked, since its inception,
as the most popular Jewish institution
and still retains the love of the peo-
ple for the work it has and is doing.
But it deserves greater support. The
boys and girls who act as volunteers
on tag days to raise money for the
fund are a brave lot, but the work
should not be left to them alone.
The duty for the redemption of Pal-
estine's soil is that of every Jew,
without exception or distinction.
Lewis I.. Strauss, chairman of the Joint Distribution Committee's Rus-
sian committee, has received the following cable from Moscow from Dr.
Boris Bogen: "Information received here of $200,000 appropriated for
fuel and $200,000 for child-care institutions, exclusive of $1,240,000 for
Russian reconstruction program, has made a gratifying impression. A
number of child-care institutions have already received funds from us. In
addition to the genefal feeding program of the American Relief Adminis-
tration, we have given special aid and provisions to the Jewish child-welfare
institutions in Odessa, Charcov, and the Korolenko School in Poltava, as
well as to the hospitals in Kiev, Odessa and Nicolaieff. We have mode win-
ter repairs in a number of institutions and provided them with fuel.

a nation-wide campaign for the re-
storation of Palestine, to help in the
rebuilding of the land through the
Palestine Foundation Fund, the Ke-
ren Ilayesod. It is well that the
Jewish people be prepared to answer
this call and give its reply nobly.
The Palestine Foundation Fund, un-
like previous Zionist efforts, is a non-
partisan fund with the strict aim of
doing the reconstructive work for
Palestine. Having for its aim only
practical effort, the Keren Ilayesod
appeal is made to Zionist and non-
Zionist alike, to every one who de-
sires to see the Holy Land rebuilt.
The Jewish responsibility today is
not only to our own people and land,
but also to our neighboring peoples
who placed a great trust in us. All
the concessions that have been made
to enable us to rebuild our national
and spiritual life have been made
with a faith that the Jew is a builder
and a loyal descendant of the proph-
ets, and if we fail now we will be
derided and scorned by the nations
of the earth. Furthermore, the Ke-
ren Ilayesod is the fund that sup-
ports the educational system in Pal-
estine. It keeps up the educational
work and supports the incoming im-
migrants, and if no more money is
to come in to Palestine, all the work
will stop, and the finest that has been
built in the Holy Land will go to
naught. That must not be. Not only
must this work be continued, but ad-
ditional activities must be inaugu-
rated. The sums collected last year
must be doubled and tripled that in
addition to meeting the annual bud-
get for the schools and hospitals and
the standing institutions there may
be begun a movement for practical
achievements. Factories must be
built, industries established and busi- 1
ness encouraged. The Keren Ilaye-
sod is the one fund that has made
possible the work accomplished dur-
ing the past year. It must be made
to do an even greater work.
B'NAI B'RITH LODGES TO
SUPPORT KEREN HAYESOD
The B'nai B'rith lodge of Chicago,
numbering more than 5,000 members,
has invited Dr. Schmarya Levin to
address the lodge on Saturday even-
ing, Jan. 13, at its annual celebra-
tion of B'nai B'rith Day. Dor , nrc his
recent vis't to Chicago, Dr. Levin in-
terested the leaden of the B'nai
B'rith in Keren Hayesod work, and
it is e—ected that in some manner
the es. .ire B'nai B'rith organization
will soon participate actively in th^
work of the Keren Ilayesod (the Pal-
estine Foundation Fund). In several
cities, B'nai B'rith lodges have helped
considerably in the campaign.
