The Buds of Judaea defeated the
Knights of Judaea on Sunday in a
debate on the question, ''Resolved,
that it is more beneficial for the
Jewish people to establish a cultural
rather than political center in Pales-
tine." Judges were Fred M. Butzel,
Mrs. J. II. Ehrlich and Theodore
Levin.
The winning team consisted of Lil-
lian Rabinowitz, Rose Schechter and
Esther Jacobson. The losing team
was composed of Isadore Cohen,
lierzl Shur and Harry Seligson.
The Buds now head the list in the
debating contest, having won two de-
bates and lost none. The Tikvas are
second with one victory and none
lost. The Knights are third, having
won one and lost one. The Defend-
ers, Maccabees and Forget.Me-Nots
each lost one debate.
The Defenders of the White and
Blue are to debate the Forget-Me-
Nola of Zion on Dec. 31 on the ques-
tion, "Resolved, that an international
Jewish parliament be established in
Jerusalem." The Knights will de-
bate the Tikvas Zion on Sunday,
Jan. 14.

AII Judaean Eleven.

-

Joseph Markel of the Knights of
Judaea picked the following teams
as representing the best football ma-
terial in Young Judaea:
First Team—Waxman (Knights),
I. e.; Sisman (Defenders), I. t.; Fire-
stone (Knights), I. g.; Smith (Macca-
bees), c.; Levin (Defenders), r. g.;
Pensler (Maccabees), r. t.; R. Cohen
(Knights), r. e.; I. Cohen (Knights),
q. b.; Labret (Maccabees), I. h.;
Axelrod (Defenders), r. h.; Thomas
(Defenders), f. b.
Second Team—L. Zack (Knights),
I. e.; Lesser (Maccabees), I. t.; Pike
(Defenders), I. g.; Markel (Defend-
ers), c.; S. Slomovitz (Knights), r.
g,; Dworin (Defenders), r. t.; Levy
(Maccabees), r. e.; Goldman (Mac-
cabees), q. b.; Klein (Defenders),
I. h.; Wendel (Maccabees), r. h.;
Raimi (Maccabees), f. b.
Markel points out that this has
been the most successful athletic sea-
son in Young Judaea and that Ju-
daeans played not for any personal
glory but for the sportsmanship.
Team work was the motto of the
season and competition ruled the day.
Markel gives the following reasons
for choosing his teams: Waxman and
Cohen are picked for ends. Waxman
played haf-back position for his team,
but is more valuable at end. Both
these are good on offensive, being
fast and good tacklers. Labrett and
Axelrod are picked as half.backs,
both being good at plunging and
open field running. Thomas received
the full-back position, being an open
field runner and line plunger, fine on
defense, a good passer and a won-
derful kicker. Firestone and Levin
are picked as guards and Sisman and
Pensler as tackles because they are
fast, know how to use their hands,
can block and do everything required
in the positions of their choice. Smith
is chosen for center, although pressed
by others for this position. He is
fast, steady and accurate, being good
both on defense and offense. I. Co-
hen is chosen quarter-back of the
eleven, being a fine general, always
cool, a fine open field runner and
good at passing. The men chosen for
the second team ran a close second
to the first team. On the whole, this
was a great season for Young Ju-
daea. This year's successes, how-
ever, predict an even greater year
for 1923.

Defenders of White and Blue.

The program of the Defenders of
the White and Blue on Saturday
evening, Dec. 9, was featured by
Chanukah numbers. The story of
the Feast of Lights was told by harry
Thomas. Sidney Lopata explained
the meaning of the lighting of the
candles. A discussion followed on
the question, "Should Jews depend
on force to secure their rights, their
freedom and their happiness in Pales-
tine and elsewhere?" Those who
took part were Iloke Levin, harry
Thomas, Hyman Cohen, Morris Pike,
Louis Stotsky, Leonard Milling and
Sidney Lopate.
The club will celebrate Chanukah
in conjunction with the Forget-Me-
Nots of Zion on Saturday night. The
third anniversary banquet of the De-
fenders will be hold on Dec. 30.
The Defenders' football squad beat
a combined team of the Knights of
Judaea and the Maccabees of Judaea
on Sunday by the score of 12 to 3.

Buds of Judaea.

The Buds of Judaea defeated the
Knights of Judaea in the debate held
Sunday, Dec. 10. This is the second
victory for the Buds this season, the
eirls aiming to keep at the top of the
list. The club has the distinction of
being the first to defeat the Knights
in two years.
Arrangements are being made for
a Chanukah latke party to be held
Saturday evening, Dec. 16, at the
home of Rose Schechter, 604 East
Warren avenue. The party is to be
given in conjunction with the Mac-
cabees of Judaea. The committee in
charge of arrangements consists of

Knights of Judaea.

"Should the Jews resort to force
to secure their Rights in Palestine
and elsewhere?" was the subject of
discussion at the last meeting of the
Knights of Judaea on Tuesday even-
ing. Louis and Nathan Zack led on
the affirmative and Joseph Levine and
Abe Torgow on the negative. Max
Weine related the story of Chanukah.
Sam Firestone, Julius Kabatzky
and Abe Torgow were elected to rep-
resent the Knights in the next dc_
bate, to be held on Jan. 14 with the

Do You Know Any Man Who
Don't Like Good Cigars ?

How often a good cigar has cemented friendships, increased go ,
fellowship, and even ironed out business tangles. You never ne:i
the holiday excuse to present a man with his favorite smoke—and ,•
always appreciated—but at Christmas time, the gift of a box et
cigars to each friend, or business associate, will say and do thin: ,
that can't be said or done in any other way. And there's no excuse
for not doing it now, when fine, fresh, preferred cigars can be pur-
chased at such prices as these. Just match 'em if you can!
