NEW YORK.—(J. C. B.)—State
Senator Nathan Straus Jr. who was
candidate for re-election on the
Democratic ticket in the Fifteenth
Senatorial district, is perhaps the
only man on the ticket to run ahead
of Governor-elect Alfred E. Smith.
Senator Straus' plurality over his op-
ponent, Harold Riegelman, was 12,-
953 as against 7,700 scored by Gov.
Smith. The popularity of the young-
er Strauss is due of his following his
father in "humanitarian legislation
and measures to promote and pro-
tect public health," says the New
York Times.
