ANNUAL YOUNG JUDAEA
DANCE ON OCTOBER 25

Preparations are now being com-
pleted for the annual Young Judea
dance, to take place on Wednesday
evening, Oct. 25, at the Women's
Federation building. Miss Mary Cap-
lan is chairman of the committee in
charge of the dance. Proceeds will go
towards the national organization of
Young Judea.
In connection with the coming ac-
tivities of Young Judea, an appeal
was issued by the local Young Judea
Council to Detroit Jews to help in
the upkeep of the national movement
of Young Judea. It is pointed out
that since the organization became an
independent body, it has had to
struggle for existence, despite a mem-
bership of more than 20,000.
The local situation is declared to
be satisfactory. New clubs are being
organized and prospects are good for
securing many new leaders.
A series of concerts are being plan-
ned by the local council for the winter
season. The first concert is planed
for Sunday evening, Oct. 8. The pro-
gram is to he featured by a hUmorous
debate. A musical program will also
be presented.

Finally Djavid inquired about the
future form of government "An Ar-
sitocratic Republic," I replied. Djavid
made strenuous objections. "Be sure
you don't mention the word 'Republic'
to the Sultan. We are incurably afraid
of it. There is fear of the infectious
spread of this revolutionary form of
government from one province to the
other." I explained briefly that I
imagined a form of government simi-
lar of that of Venice.
Finally I asked him to he present
at the audience which his father, the
Grand Visier Khalil Rifat Pasha, is to
grant me. Ile promised to do so and
is in general prepared to aid us with
word and deed. At his question re-
garding the proposals I intended to
make, I replied that I could present
the details only to the Sultan.

The club is commencing to make a

meeting was featured by a discussion
of the proceedings of the Carlsbad
Zionist conference. The story of Eve
was told by Anna Neusbaum. Frieda

as Russia's friendship persists, Izzet

The regular meeting of the Buds of
Judea was held at the Shaarey Zedek,
Monday, Sept. 17. Miss Faye Cash-
dan, leader of the club, installed the
new officers. Lillian Rabinowitz and
Esther Jacobson were elected to repre-
sent the Buds in the Senior Judean
Council.
The following Rosh ha-Shanah pro-
gram was held: The story of Rosh
ha-Shanah, by Sophie Mendelsohn;
the story of the Shofar, told by Miss
Cashdan, and a general discussion,
"How is the character of the Jewish
race shown in their observance of Rosh
ha-Shanah and Yam Kippur?" Plans
have been outlined for the coming year
and it is hoped that with the new ad-
ministration in the lead, the plans ca n
be carried out successfully.
The Buds of Judea extend to De-

Nevlinsky believes it would be out
of the question for us to dare to offer
the Sultan twenty million pounds for
Palestien. That such was, so to speak,
the value in exchange; but we would
have to pay for the sentimental value
as well. However, we could possibly
'acquire various concessions which
I would make our task lighter for us;
thus for instance there was the elm-
, tricity-monopoly for all of Turkey,
but at all events the three divisions
would have to remain.

After Nevlinsky had alighted at the
Yildiz, I rode alone aimlessly through
the irregular streets of Pera and
down under the bridge.
Nevlinsky returned late and peeved.
Ina Bey, the first secretary to the
Sultan, was frankly opposed to the
affair. "Too much support is promised
for the plan," he said, "and Nevlinsky
supposes that the man who undertook
the first steps for us here had preced-
ed very tactlessly. This will have to
be made right—a thing that will not
be no very easy."
Then there is another difficulty: the
Sultan seems to be ill. Nevlinsky was
not permitted to see him. What ails
the Sultan is not known. Baron Pep-
per has heard through his sister that
