Women As Money Raisers.

A report from Portland, Oregon, states that at the conven-
tion of the Episcopal Church there in session, the women of
that denomination turned over to the church the stupendous
sum of seven hundred thousand dollars raised by them for
church purposes during the past three years. This indicates
what women can do in the matter of raising funds when they
set their minds to it.
The Jewish women of America have during the past year
been engaged in a similar undertaking which happily promises
to be crowned with eminent success. The sum which they are
seeking to raise is considerably smaller than thaticffiich their

Many centuries have passed since
the above was uttered by the Prophet
Isaiah, but it is equally as applicable
today. The People of the Book is in
danger of becoming the people of the
pocket-book, and our young is imita-
ting the evil habits of our neighbors,
instead of spreading the holy word
of the Lord and living up to the noble
title of being a "nation of priests and
• Holy people." What is the cause of
the present degeneracy in our ranks?
(Be it remembered that when we
speak of degeneracy in our ranks we
may be referring only to a minority,
but our people has always been blam-
ed for the acts of a few.) It is be-
cause the younger generation is grow-
ing up in a state of igncrance, know.
ing little or nothing of our history and
traditions; knowing less of our proph-
ets and sages than of Greek or Chi-
nese. Our young see much less of the
