the congregation in organized Jewish life, and if now they are
made acquainted with the magnificent part that the Jew has
played in the outworking of civilization and in the shaping of
ancient and of modern culture, there is little doubt that instead
of becoming scoffers and cynics and skeptics—as unfortunately
so many of the men and women who have graduated from our
colleges in past years—they will become ardent and loyal sup-
porters of Judaism and upholders of the ideals which it
sponsors.
We believe that they who have at heart the interests of
Judaism can do no better than to support those institutions that
have to do with bringing the message of Judaism to the stu-
dent. To the importance of this problem, such organizations
as the Union of American Hebrew Congregations and the Cen-
tral Conference of American Rabbis should in particular be
alive. There is no form of activity which they can undertake
which will more fully repay itself in telling results than the
support that they give to work of this character.

scarcely anywhere to be found a great university attended by
large numbers of Jewish students that is without a student
congregation.
This is particularly true where the college or university is
situated far from a great city where a regularly established
congregation exists. The Jewish Chautauqua Society is bring-
ing its message to an ever-increasing number of earnest men
and women who attend the summer sessions of the colleges,
and the Menorah Society, not merely through its splendid mag-
