T was no idle choice of N%•ords that prompted
us to adopt the slogan: "America's Finest
Furniture."

It was, rather, the simple phrasing of the
ideal back of this store.

Living up to the slogan, it is but natural that
we should feature the products of such disting-
guished makers as Berkey & Gay, S. Kamen &
Bro., Luce, Sligh, Widdicomb and Phoenix.

JEWS IN SOUTH RUSSIA
DRIVEN MAD BY FAMINE

LONDON.-1.1. T. A.0—The fam-
ine situation in the provinces of
Odessa, Nikolaiev and Cherson, are
described as worse than in the Volga
district, in a letter from a responsible
social worker of Odessa published by
the Federation of Ukrainian Jews
here. All the goods left in Cheeses
would not fill a small wagon, the
writer says. Half the population has
died or trekked to other places, ink •
ing the entire district the appearanc ,
of a desert.

Saul Chernichowsky. the Hebrew
poet, who has been ill for some time,

death.
The suffering of the Jews in those
districts is aggravated by the fact
that they are unable to escape. as to
the peasants who have access to the

Cannibalism appears with re,:ur-
rent frequency and only recently at
Nikolaiev the body of a child was
found hacked to pieces. The mother
subsequently confessed that she had
killed her offspring for food.
A famine-stricken group attempted
to steal food from the government
stores at Novopoltawka. The official
on guard tired at the marauders, kill-
ing two and wounding five others.
Acute forms of stomach disease are
widespread. according to a report to
the "Colon Russii" of Berlin.
