Beginning with the June issue of Hearst's International Magazine,
Norman Hapgood begins a series of articles on the instide story of
Fo rd's anti - Jewish propaganda. It is profusely illustrated with fan-
a i.ailes of letters that were exchanged between Ford's hired crew and
the gang of crooked detectives and other undesirables that milked the
misled millionaire ignoramus to the king's taste. Ilangood intends to
show that this cheap automobile manufacturer we. the dupe of the
czarist group of reactionaries andss a result of their machinations
Ford began to grew Jew•crazy. Everybody seemed to be a Jew to
kin. If they were riot Jews they were Gentiles who were "fronts" for
Jews, whether it was Wilson, or House, or Taft, or Hoever--anyone
end everyone who ever said • friendly word about the Jew became
blacklisted by the gang of mercenaries who scrambled like hungry
cuts for the crumbs of gold that dropped from the pockets of the big.
g nat gilly that has been produced in modern times.

Some question the wisdom of the exposure of the Ford dementia.
They think that the Ford brainstorm has passed over and it is best to
let the unpleasantness die. Others, however, believe that it is a good
thing to thoroughly expose every detail of the conspiracy, not by the
Jews, but one of the most damnable that was ever developed in mod-
ern history against the Jews. Hapgood, who usually knows what he is
talking or writing about, claims to have the evidence to prove how
Ford attracted all the undesirable elements from Ru , Germany
and this country, united by the common bond of working the good
thing, and all under the direction of the beautiful Liebold, who, with
his lying and his treachery, so fooled and duped his employer until
the latter became an "easy mark" for Liekold and the rest of the
"gold diggers." Probably it is just m well that the truth shall be
revealed to the world so that in the event that there he any other
misguided and completely guileless minds who had an idea of follow-
ing in the footsteps of Ford they may be discouraged from such a
foolish procedure.
The Jewish Telegraph Agency reported last week that • well known
English Jew suggested in a letter written to the London Spectator
that • commission composed of four Britisher, and four "Hebrew Eng-
lish citizens" be appointed to investigate the frequent complaints that
English Jews are not good citizens. The proposal, so the article goes,
"heartily endorsed it." I confess that I am muddled if the "Jewish
leader" of England isn't. First of all I detest that "Hebrew English"
term; it sounds much like the Gentile who seeks the harshness of the
word "Jew" when having occasion to mention "Jew" to a Jew. You
all know the man who says "our Hebrew friends." And besides the
whole thing smacks of the silly season in England. Our English Jews
most be getting exceedingly nervous over the persistent agitation that
is now going on against them to drive them to commit such tom.
foolery as this. It is unthinkable. As if it were necessary for any
eight men to pass upon the patriotism of English Jewry. I should think
it an insult worthy of •nti•Semite and certainly unworthy of a "Jew-
ish" leader.
Widespread publicity is being given to the suggestion of the Ameri•
can Israelite that the B'nai B'rith and the Y. M. H. A. merge. While
on the surface it would seem that it is practical to have one institution,
yet when one gives the subject due consideration, one will see that
these two organizations make entirely different appeals to Jewry.
There are any number of men who would not affiliate with • "Y" and
to whom the "Y" program of activity has very little of interest. Of
course, it might be possible if the "Y" were to lose its identity in the
B'nai B'rith, but then again the program of the latter would be too
limited. I am quite sure, with the experience of • third of a century
in Jewish work, that the I. 0. B. B. will never surrender its identity
without a struggle, and I question whether the "Y" in any circum-
stance would be willing to lose its name and be swallowed up by the
B'nai B'rith. However, if anyone is interested in making the effort,
he should not be discouraged.
"Flow the Other Half Gives" is a satirical caption given by the
New Republic to • paragraph taken from the New York World.
"One of the largest and most brilliant social events of the
season was the Sunrise Ball last night at the Hotel Ambassador
for the benefit of the Help-Men-to-Help-Themselves organize.•
two. This is the association formed by many well known New
Yorkers to establish stations throughout the city where unem-
ployed men may get a bath and a shave without cost. The
idea is that they will be better able to obtain work by present-
ing a more attractive appearance."
I would 'suggest that a manicuring feature be introduced, which
unquestionably would help solve the question of unemployment as
satisfactorily as the intelligent (7) method of these "well known" but
very amateur New Yorkers. It reminds me of the lady who tried to
sweep the ocean back with • broom.
Mr. Untermyer, you surely are too smart a man to have us believe
that you are in earnest when you make such mtonishing statements as
these:
"If in the hour of greatest necessity one were disloyal to
the people and the race from which he sprung, he would dis-
grace his Americanism. These Jews are Americans by self-
proclamation only. They are not true Americans. The spirit
of loyalty is not in them. They have said and done things that
must make every true American burn with indignation and
contempt. They have trampled on the mother that bore them;
they are a blot on the present glorious page of Jewish history.
But the spots on the sun are powerless to dim its brilliance."
That is nothing but the usual band-stand Fourth of July oration
unbecoming the intellect of such a man as Samuel Untermyer. I won-
der to whom he thinks he is talking?

once more to put his congregation to the test, for I observe with in-

c operators to
investigate the conditions in West Virginia, and, speaking for those
interested in the miners' side of the controversy, he said: "Long be-
fore it (the investigation) is completed, the operators will be sorry
they extended the invitation to us." Dr. Wise has courage and, further-
more, he isn't one of those cautious gentlemen who is given overmuch
to "weasel words."

Ludwig Lewisohn's life story in this country, titled "Up Stream,"
the
has commanded the earnest consideration of critics everywhere in
country. But it is peculiar that most of them veer away from the very
point that Lewisohn tries to emphasise in his book, that in university

PRAGUE (J. C. B., by Mail.)—
Thanks to the energy displayed by
the Zionists, their field of influence
is rapidly growing and can be felt
in every phase of Jewish life in the
Czecho-Slovakian republic. But it is
very interesting to note that some
Jewish circles, particularly the Chas-
sidic, stand firmly against the cul-
tural activities of the Zionists because
of some disagreements in religious
views. Protests and declarations are
made on both sides and we cite here
a recent occurrence in, Bardijov, Slo-
vakia. The Chassidim of this city,
embittered against the Zionists be-
cause of a sport club which the latter
recently organized, excommunicated
all of the members of the local Zion-
ist organization. When the attention
of the Supreme Rabbi in l'rague, Dr.
Henry Brody, was called to this, he
declared in an open letter that this
was an act of fanaticism and intoler-
ance and he also publicly denounced
them.
Meanwhile, the Zionists in Barijov
were not inactive. They printed bonds
for large and small amounts and de-
clared that they would pay all of their
duties towards the Jewish community
with these whether the duties be
taxes, beneficial works, or what. The
most interesting part of it is that the
Zionist secretary in Bardijov, accept
ing these bonds in payment, withhold.
5 per cent of the amounts in behalf
of the Zionist funds and that the
Chassidim of Bardijov, as this created
a critical financial situation in the
local community, did not protes
, against this arrangement.

TO DECIDE IF JEWS
ARE GOOD CITIZENS
Spectator Want. American to Help
Decide This Question.
HOTEL CADILLAC
LONDON.—(J. T. A.)—A Jewish
leader, whose identity is withheld,
■ 'writing
in the Spectator, suggests that
a commission composed of four Brit-
ishers and four "Hebrew English citi-
zens" be appointed to investigate the
frequent complaints that English
Jews are not good citizens. The pro-
posal is heartily endorsed in a lengthy
editorial leader In the Spectator,
which proposes that the subject of the
inquiry shall be if the "maintenance
of Jewish racial exclusiveness, com-
bined with the claims for a separate
religion and nationality are consistent
with complete British citizenship."
As members of this commission,
the Spectator proposes one historian,
• "certain American ambassador now
settled in England" and, above all, a
retired judge. Those whose opinions
incline strongly either way should not
be included in this commission, the
Spectator suggests. Witnesses rep-
resenting extreme views should be
called, however, and the Spectator
names such men as Lord Sydenham,
the Duke of Northumberland and the
notorious Hilaire Belloc as men who
might be called to testify.
