JUDAEA KNIGHTS HOLD
CHAMPIONSHIP DEBATE

The championship team of the
Knights of Judaea will be chosen on
Saturday evening, May 6, when the
two teams tied for first honors of
the club will debate on the following
question:
"Resolved, that the Jewish com-
munities throughout the world organ-
ize Jewish congresses in their vari-
ous centers; that these congresses,
through their representatives, pro-
ceed with the organization of a
World Jewish Congress; and that said
World Jewish Congress be charged
with the duties of conducting the af-
fairs of Judaism, economic, political,
etc., and should also be charged with
the chief duty of rebuilding Pales-
tine as the Jewish National Home-
land."
The affirmative will be upheld by
the team composed of Jacob Kadu-
shin, Abe Torgow and Louis Zack.
The negative will be upheld by Sam
Firestone, William Lankin and Joe
Markle.

tion of prohibition in Palestine. The
Firestone team upheld the negative
side of the question, prohibition be-
ing advocated by Joe Levin, Julius
Kabatsky and Nathan Zack.
The debate Saturday was closely
contested. William Lankin was voted
best speaker. The judges were Sol
Lipehitz, Barney Jaroslow, Hyman
Ttgel, Charles Levine and Miss Nad-
ler. The Hadar Zion were the guests
of the Knights of Judaea at this meet-
ing, attending the debate.
By unanimous decision the Knights
passed a resolution condemning the
opponents of the resolutions in Con-
gress favoring a Jewish Homeland in
Palestine and urging the members of
Congress, in a telegram to Senator
Lodge, to vote for the resolutions.
The program this Saturday even-
ing will consist of discussions of Pal-
estine topics by S. Slomovitg, J. Saf-
frin, D. Cooper, A. lionigman and B.
Cohen.

The last meeting of the Forget-Me-
Nots of Zion woo held at the home of
the leader of the club, Miss Rosa L.
Copinsky, 4224 Lincoln avenue. The
club decided to purchase a half dunam
land in Palestine. Miss Rose Nakel-
sky was elected to membership in the
club. Arrangements were made for
a Maywalk on May 7, the weather per-
mitting.
The following new officers were
elected: Sarah Yaker, president; Rose
Brady, vice-president; Bessie Pevin,
secretary; Rose Katzer, treasurer.
The program consisted of a talk by
the leader and a report on "Why the
Mogen David Has Six Points," by
Lena !Mendelsohn.
The next meeting will be held Sat-
urday evening at the home of Miss
Gertrude Katz, 938 East Kirby ave-
nue. Visitors are welcome.

The Sunday afternoon meeting of
the Tikvas Zion was featured by one
of the most interesting debates ever
held by the club. The affirmative of
the proposition, "Resolved that the
Evinhols and ceremonials of the Seder
he abolished in Palestine," was upheld
by Mary Nlarkofsky and Pauline
Schwartz and the negative by Naomi
Buchhalter, Mollie Chabensky, and
Eva ('roll. The affirmative side was
voted winner, and Eva ('roll was de-
clared best speaker.

Ethel Gershenson gave a short talk
on "The I'ossibilities of Jewish Girls
in America," and will at a future
date talk on "The Possibilities of
Jewish Girls in Pa lestine."
A telegram was sent by the club to
the Michigan representatives in Con-
gress urging them to vote for the
Lodge Zionist resolution.
This Sunday, the program will be
featured by a debate on the question,
"Resolved that the Jews of America
are in greater need of Zionism than
are the Jews of Eastern Europe."

Mayfield, well known in theatrical
circles, who is visiting his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Leet of this city, staged
and directed the play.
Souvenirs were distributed to all
present. Dancing followed the pro.
gram and refreshments were served.

Defenders of White and Blue.

The program of the Defenders of
the White and Blue Sunday was fea-
tured by a discussion of the Keren
Ilayesod, Ilyman Tigel giving the
principal talk on the subject. Israel
Zilber, leader of the club, also spoke
on the subject. Simon Axelrod re-
viewed current events of Jewish in-
terest.
The club unanimously passed a
resolution to urge the Michigan mem-
bers of the United States Senate to
vote for the resolution to recognize
Jewish claims to I'alestine. A wire
was sent Senator Lodge urging him
to vote for the passage of the Pales-
tine resolution.
This Sunday, Jack Flusty will
speak on "Water Power in I'ales-
tine" and Sydney Lopate on "The
Banks of Palestine and the Urban
Mortgage Bank."
