AN UNUSUAL
OPPORTUNITY

Three years ago the Union Investment Company
started discounting automobile contracts, and, in
spite of general business conditions, has made the
following remarkable record:
This is the record of the company to date:

•
Feb. 6, 1919—Incorporated for $25,000.
Sept. 1, 1919-35% Common Stock Dividend
paid out of earnings.
Jan. 1, 1920—Began paying 8% on Preferred
Stock, which has been continuous.
April 1, 1920—Capital increased to $400,000.
Feb. 10, 1922-50% Common Stock Divi-
dend paid out of earnings.
We are now putting the Common Stock on
an 8% basis.

A downtown building has been bought at con-
siderably under current values. The company occu-
pies a portion of the building for its own office, and
the balance has been favorably leased.
We are now putting the Common Stock on an
8% basis.
Do you know of another investment of equal se-
curity earning 8% and with a similar bonus record?
We are now disposing of the balance of treasury
stock. Are you going to take advantage of this de-
pendable investment?
The high character of the Company is evidenced
by the officers and board of directors—Abraham
Cooper, Paul Tobin, David Cooper, Claud M. Beers
of the National Bank of Commerce, Julius Rubiner
of the First State Bank, and Lent D. Upson of the
Detroit Bureau of Governmental Research.

OPERATORS OF RADIO
KEEP AMMONIA HANDY

The more experienced an amateur.
radio operator you are, and particu-
larly the more frequently you use
your set in the parlor where polished
floors and expensive furniture abound,
the closer you should keep a bottle of
diluted ammonia solution and an old
cloth.
This is particularly so if you use
a storage battery that has a woollen
case since acid is practically certain
to be splashed over the sides and soak
into the case or run down upon the
table or floor. Under such circum-
stances a quick application of ammo-
nia or baking soda solution will
neutralize the acid and prevent stains
upon the wood-work.
According to reports received from
the Willard Storage Battery Company
of Cleveland, Ohio, there is little ex-
cuse in these days of advanced bat-
tery construction for using radio "A"
batteries that have wooden cases. A
number of manufacturers are supply-
ing batteries in rubber containers, of
which the Willard All-Rubber "A"

POLAND SUBSIDIZES
SCHOOLS OF WILNA

WARSAW.—(J. C. 13.) — The
Polish Government has granted a sub-
sidy of 30 million Polish marks for
the support of the Jewish schools of
Wilna. Substantial sums of money
have also been placed by the Govern-
ment at the disposal of the directors
of certain philanthropic institutions.
It will he recalled that the Jewish
communal leaders of Wilna rejected a
subvention of 300,000 marks, which
the Warsaw Government decided to
allocate for the support of Jewish in-
stitutions, on the ground that the
amount was disproportionate to the
needs of the community and the pro-
portion of Jews to the rest of the
population.

COLONIAL THEATER

Spirits will have a big time at the
Colonial theater next week, so there-
fore if you're interested in the super-
natural and all that sort of thing,
better sit down now and plan your
evening away next week. On the
stage the headline attraction of an-
other big bill of five Shubert vaude-
ville acts will be a sextette of Chinese
players in some of the most startling
illusions ever attempted on the Amer-
ican stage. Tables will move stealth.
ily about the room, men and women
will disappear in great yo•ning
chasms and altogether the mystic will
hold full sway throughout the enter-
tainment.
Other big time entertainers on
next week's list are the Herculean
trio of star athletes with their won-
derful head spins and strong-arm
stunts; Frederick Hawley and COT-
pony of stellar players in a dramatic
sketch called "The Bandit" and Rosa
Valyda, the famous soprano song
bird. Another strong act will be pre-
sented, the management awaiting an-
nouncement to determine if a group
of vaudevillians arriving from abroad
this week can arrive in Detroit in
time to present their new act.
Viola Dana's brand new picture,
first run in Detroit, known as "The
Fourteenth Lover," will be the im-
portant screen attraction. It is a
dainty little comedy romance about
• love affair between a gardner and
a daughter of the rich—just the kind
one likes. Jack Mulhall, the dashing
hero of many a screen play, will be
seen as leading man. There is • big
cast of favorites also in addition.

FIRST NATIONAL BANK BUILDING

Foundations

Only here and there have men had much help in this world. They

have been compelled to learn by making many mistakes.

Education would have helped tremendously. But the money was
lacking.

You can lay a foundation for the education of your boy or girl
upon which he or she can build for a lifetime.

Open a Savings Bank account for the little one now. Make it an
absolute rule that you will deposit $100. in this account each birthday.
When the child is of age there will be sufficient to put him through
college.

When you place such an account in this bank, or any of its branches,

you have all of the protection of a state bank in addition to the counsel
of the officers of a great national bank.

We invite you to lay a solid foundation for your child by opening
a savings bank account in this bank.
