KOSHER BRANDY LEGAL,
D. OF C. JUSTICE RULES
WASHINGTON. — The question
whether Kosher brandy can be re-
garded under certain circumstances as
"wine used for sacramental purposes"
within the meaning of the national
prohibition law was answered in the
affirmative by Justice Hits, of the Dis-
trict of Columbia Supreme Court.'
Holding that the nature of liquor is
determined, not by the process of
manufacture but by the use to which
it is put, the justice ordered a man-
damus writ against Roy H. Haynes,
prohibition commissioner, to compel
release of 55 barrels of Kosher brandy
which had been purchased by Eman-
uel Schwartz, a wholesaler of Scran-
ton, Ps.
