Appeals for the Keren Hayesod
(Palestine Foundation Fund) will be
made in all local synagogues during
the first days of Passover, as a result
of a decision reached by the Detroit
committee at a meeting held Thurs-
day evening.
Henry Meyers, chairman of the
propaganda committee, is in charge
of arrangements for a concerted effort
to enlist a greater number of Detroit-
ers for the fund. At the same time,
the outstanding purpose of the ap-
peal for the fund during the Passover
will be to impress upon the minds of
Jwes who pledged for the fund the
necessity of making immediate pay-
ment on pledges.
Abe Srere, chairman of the Detroit
committee, whose appeal for the fund
and explanation of its purposes was
published in last week's Chronicle,
emphasized again the importance of
increasing Detroit's collections and
asked for immediate payments on
pledges for Palestine's reconstruction.

IIE fact that there have been few nice days thus far this
Spring, and that when there is one, the majority of people
would rather be out enjoying the air than listening to
music was evident last Sunday afternoon. The Detroit Sym-
phony Orchestra, Mr. Gabrilowitsch conducting, played to one
of the smallest audiences of the season.
It is too bad that so few heard what proved to be a most
pleasing program. It opened with the overture to "Mignon"
y Thomas and closed with the delightful ballet music from
Faust" by Gounod. Between these two numbers Miss Olga
teeb, pianiste, performed the Liszt E Flat Concerto. Miss
teeb's playing disclosed the possession of musical sensibilities
tad technical fluency. The effect of her paying could have
een heightened had she more brilliancy and power. She was
ecalled four times. The closing number, the ballet music from

With lower rates now in effect, De-
troit is rapidly becoming a taxicab
city similar to Chicago and New York.
This increase in the use of taxicabs
has made it necessary for the Yellow
Taxicab company to make an increase
in the number of cabs operated.
"It is our intention," says J. E.
Murphy, president and general man-
ager of the company, "to make the
Detroit Yellow fah company not only
the equal, but the superior of any
other system in the country.
"To accomplish this purpose, we
have gone beyond the taxi companies
in other cities in studying and adapt-
ing methods and devices which will
contribute to the comfort and safety
of our passengers.
"The adoption of Roles 'Hindview'
mirrors on all our cabs is an example
of the care we are taking to give De-
troit a perfect service both in regard
to safety and convenience.
"We feel that, giving our drivers
as clear a view to the rear as they
have to the front, will not only mean
a great convenience to them, but will
also be an important factor in pre-
venting accidents. So far as we know
we are the first taxi company to adopt
rear vision mirrors as standard equip-
ment.
"Following the usual Kales Stamp-
ing Comnanv policy. a careful study
was made of the Yellow Taxicab body
designs and the reflection angles from
the driver's point of vision in order to
place the mirror correctly to give the
driver the clearest and widest view to
the rear."

COLONIAL THEATER

Big time vaudeville, and a wide
variety, of it, including singing,
dancing, musical presentations,
clowning and plenty of comedy will
again hold forth on the Colonial
theater's new combination bill of
vaudeville and pictures, beginning
next Monday matinee.
While Nat Nazarro is entertaining
tremendous crowds this week, the
Colonial management expects that
the engagement of the famous Fran-
cis Renault to head next week's bill
will attract as much, if not more in-
terest. Francis presents a fantastic
musical revue staged in true Shu-
bert style, displaying wonderful
gowns in the latest styles and color-
ings.
Myron Perloff, the noted Russian
dancer. is featured in another big
act. He comes as part of the big
Charles Yates "Dance-o-Mania," a
whrlwind affair in full stage that
fairly dazzles the spectator with fly-
ing footsteps.
