It is believed that Lord Reading will not resign as Viceroy of India,
Edwin Montagu himself having asked him to remain in office. Mr. Montagu .
Is understood to have informed Lord Reading that it would be disastrous to
India if he left at the present stage, before carrying out the proposed re-
forms. In consequence of this pressure, Lord Reading feels that the moral ,
obligation upon him to resign is removed.

At the request of Rabbi Jacob Kats, the Jewish chaplain of Sing Sing, I
the execution of Julius Rosenwasser, fixed for the week of April 17, has
been postponed until after Passover. Governor Miller consented to a stay
of the execution following the rabbi's appeal showing that it would be an
act of kindness to the family of the condemned to delay the exceution until
after the holidays.

A party of 150 travelers, including a number of Jewish merchants, were
devoured by a pack of wolves between l'roskurov and Volochisk, reports
from Proskurov state. The party included some soldiers of the Red army,
who kept the wolves at bay as long as their ammunition lasted. Only three
wolves having been shot before the ammunition was exhausted, the re-
mainder of the hungry pack promptly fell on the travelers and tore them
to bits.

All Polish citizens of "unimpeachable patriotism" are eligible for com-
missions in the Polish army, nn amendment to the army regulations passed
on final reading in the Diet provides. The adoption of this amendment came
as a complete surprise. On a previous reading this proposal, introduced by
the Jewish Deputy Hartglas, was defeated, thus excluding from the com-
missioned ranks citizens of Poland who, as in the case of some Jewish
officers, profess a nationality other than Polish.

Reports that the Soviet government is • placing obstacles in the way of
American Landsmannschaften who are endeavoring to bring relief to their
kinsmen in Russia are emphatically denied in a statement by the Yidgescom
of Moscow. Far from interfering with such activities, the Yidgescom
asserts, the Soviet authorities are ready to extend all necessary facilities to
representatives of the Landsmannschaften, provided that work is carried
on under the auspices of and in co-operation with the Yidgescom.

Spring, Women, and Furniture
In the spring every home needs some new furniture—
and women know it! At this time it becomes a genuine
pleasure to select from Weil's a whole suite or, perhaps,
an additional piece to bring seasonal charm into the home.
For in this great store there is one entire floor devoted
exclusively to living room suites. Another has nothing but
matched dining room sets. Still an entire third floor holds
bedroom suites only.
For homes which desire the most beautiful and unusual
products of the craftsman's art there is a special showing
of the famous "Danersk" furniture. These exquisite crea-
tions, found only at \Veil's, are turned by hand and beau-
tifully decorated to your order to match with any color
scheme.
Here, also, you will find sage and wise counsel which
make easy the many difficult problems of home furnishing.

The People's Relief Committee has decided to raise $1,000,000 to be
spent for the purchase of tools for the Jews of Russia. Expressions of
approval of the plan to assist constructively in the rehabilitation of the
agriculturally and industrithly competent Jews of Russia have been received
from many sources. The Rev. Dr. J. D. Magnes has expressed himself in
hearty accord with the plan, declaring "Jews who are under the new Rus-
sian regulations able to secure land must be provided with all necessary
agricultural implements. Jewish laborers should be provided with the
requisite tools. Industrial schools should be founded in all Jewish towns.
I am confident that the required sum for this noble purpose will be raised
in the very near future."

Receipts for 16,500 food parcels delivered in Russia reached the Moscow
office of the American Relief Administration, en announcement gates. Of
these, 12,000 receipts have been cleared through the London office and dis-
patched to America. The majority of the parcels were distributed in the
districts of Odessa, Kiev and Minsk, where the greater part of the Jewish
population of Russia is to be found. Beginning March 10, 4,000 food
parcels were dispatched daily from Moscow to the local warehouses. There
has been some delay In the distribution of the food parcels, the 16,500
representing but 20 per cent of the total of 80,000 parcels sold in America
to date. The delay was due, it is stated, to lack of transport facilities,
