Considerable surprise has been caused in Zionist circles by the Colonial
Office's statement merely denying the London Morning Post's authorization
for the prediction that certain drastic changes were to be made in the inter-
prelation of the Balfour Declaration. Zionists ore displeased that the
Colonial Office has not denied the correctness of the report, stating merely
that it was not based on any information from that office.

Professor Ashkenazi, Polish delegate to the League of Nations, wilt
remain at his post, Premier Ponikowski states. The Polish government
had decided to recall Professor Ashkenazi in deference to the insistent
demands of elements hostile to thte professor, on racial grounds. The
Courier Polski and other liberal organs denounced this step as an evidence
of "short-sighted chauvinism" and demanded Professor Ashkenasi's rein-
statement.

What does it hold for you?

You have already entered upon
the twelve months' journey through
unexplored territory—looking about
you for favorable signs.

Immigrants who have been deported or returned from American shores
because of the filled Polish quota will be given another chance if it is
shown that they were Russians, but incorrectly listed as Poles, the American
Consul announces. These visas will be issued against the Russian quota,
which still leaves room for the admission of 18,000 immigrants to the United
States. Several parties of deported immigrants have arrived in Warsaw,
most of them in desperate straits.

What the journey's end will bring
to you depends entirely upon your- ,
self. If you do nothing you will
have nothing.

Dr. Chaim Weizmann on his arrival in Berlin had a half-hour's eon:
versation with Chancellor Wirth. It is understood that as a result of this
conversation the chancellor will use his influence with the Vatican for a
more liberal understanding of the Zionist position. The reception of the
Zionist president was entirely cordial. The president of the Kehillah in
h's address of welcome said that German Jewry was singularly honored by
Or. Weizmann's presence.

A Jewish journalist, arriving in Lemberg from Kiev, which he left a

All stores are open, the storekeepers paying taxes ranging from 3,000,000
to 6,000,000 rubles quarterly. Exchange transactions are permitted, the
dollar bringing 2)1,01)0 Soviet rubles. Owing to the improved conditions,
many refugees are returning home and those that are better off are even
collecting money for relief Of the sufferers.

The Polish government does not recognize the Palestinian citizenship
of Jews who were born in Poland. Palestinians who tried to enter Poland
were refused visas by the Polish Consul unless they were ready to give up
their Palestinian passport and take a Polish passport instead. They were
also required to register their military status. Dr. Osias Thon has lodged
a protest with the Palestinian government, while Deputay Isaac Gruenbaum
has intervened with the Polish government.

In view of the conference on the Near East between representatives of
Great Britain, France and Italy, and the forthcoming meeting of the League
of Nations, anti-Zionist circles in London, Jerusalem and Cairo are working
at high pressure to defeat the Zionist aspirations. The object of this re-
newed campaign is said to be three-fold: Arab circles are anxious to have
Sir Herbert Samuel, High Commissioner for Palestine, recalled, the title of
the Zionist Organization as the Jewish agency for Palestine revoked, and
a Palestine Parliament established. In this campaign they are believed to
have the assistance of a number of influential officials of the Palestine ad-
ministration.

Emire Abdallah, who rules over Trans-Jordania, has arrived in Jeru-
salem to negotiate with Sir Herbert Samuel for financial help for the ad-

min'stration of his province. The Emir is • brother of Emir Feisal, the
Mesorotamian ruler. Abdallah administers his provinces with the help of
British officers detached from the Palestine administration and who serve
withe Arab chief in an advisory capacity. Owing to the difficulty of farm.
ing out taxes amongst the wandering Bedouin tribes, the Emir is hard put
for funds to carry on his administration. According to the terms of the
revised Mandate for Palestine, TransJordania will constitute not merely
a formal but an integral part of the Holy Land.

The complete list of the members of praesidium elected by the All-
Russian Executive Committee contains 15 members and 11 alternates, in-
cluding Leo Kameneff, mayor of Moscow, whose original name was Rosen-

alternate for Lenin is not Trotzky but Rykow. The Foreign Commerce
Ministry proposes sending new commercial representatives to the principal
European capitals. The commercial representative of Soviet Ukraine in
Berlin will most likely be Nowakowski, the well known Jewish Communist.

Vigorous representations are being made by the Wand HaLeumi (Jewish
National Council) against the proposed distribution of crown lands on the
basis of 150 to 200 dunam per cultivator, besides pasture lands. By this
distribution, the prospective Jewish settlers are deprived of the opportunity
to receive their share, the Jewish representatives point out, as 100 dune
is held to he sufficient for a family, the Arab fellah at no time having had
under cultivation more than an average of 25 dunam. •
