Samuel against the order calling for
the deportation of the Jewish com-
munists and members of the "Mops"
party. The "Waad lia-Leumi" de-
clared that the deportation, even of
Jews who are not citizens of Palestine
is a contradition to the Balfour Dec-
laration, and that it will be inter-
preted by anti-Semites as proving that
there is a strong Jewish party in
Palestine. The "Waad Ha-Leumi"
demands that Samuel permit the so-
called "communists" to remain in
Palestine, because no country would
deport its own citizens and Jews
should be regarded as legitimate citi-
zens of Palestine. Herbert Samuel,
however, remained obdurate and re-
fused to revoke the order.
