"JEWISH GUARDIAN”
ATTACKS MORGENTHAU

LONDON.—(J. T. A.)—The Jew-
ish Guardian, in this week's issue,
makes a severe attack on Henry Mor-
genthau for his latest article against
Zionism. The Guardian is not at
all pleased with Morgenthau's inter-
ference with England's policies in
Palestine and the paper makes the
very unexpected remark that it is too
late to destroy Zionism, deep-rooted
as it is. The English Jews, continues
the publication, have frequently and
for many years tried to do it, but
they finally realized that it is foolish
to oppose the policies of the English
government. We are not much sur-
prised, says the Jewish Guardian, that
certain English patriots hasten to
proclaim Morgenthau a prophet in Is-
reel.

has again been called in Vilna
through the efforts of the local Polish
Democratic party, in the hope of in-
fluencing the Jews to take a stand
in favor of Poland in the Vilna ques-
tion. The l'oles expressed their re-
gret that the Jews of Vilna hold aloof
and remain passive, taking no part in
the work of the various institutions
of the city. The question was put,
whether the Jewish representatives
would in time desire to take part in
a government council in Vilna,
which
would
ll there

. be representatives
es.
of a
The Jewish delegate, Mr. Shapiro,.
stated in reply to this question that
the Jews of Vilna aspire to equal rep-
resentation, but as long as theJew-
ish-Polish relations in the Polish Con-
gress remain what they are, the
promise to improve the condition of
the Jews of Vilna can be regarded as
nothing more than an attempt to hide
the main issue from the Jews.
