I'ARIS.-After nearly two years
in l'alestine, where he has made a
close study of the business prospects
of the country, Samuel Elfenbein,
Treasurer of the National Structural
Supply Company of Jaffa, gives it as
his opinion that for men with the
capital and nerve to put through a
long, slow job the industrial pros-
pects of the country merit every con-
fidence.
Mr. Elfenbein is passing through
Paris on the way to New York with
his family. Ile sailed Saturday on
the Aquitania. It is solely on their
account, he says, that he is return-
ing to the United States, as educa-
tional facilities are not yes developed
enough in the east for children born
and reared in America. Ile intends,
however, to return to Jaffa rind con-
tinue work of the Structural Supply
Company which is now under way.

THE A-I MILD

THE LITTLE GIRL AT THE WELL

In another of his journeys, Rabbi
Joshua met a pretty little girl draw-,
ing water from a well. He asked her
to give him a drink, for he was very
; thirsty. She handed him her pitcher,
saying, like Rebecca in the old story:
I "Drink, and when you have finished
I will draw some more for your poor
tired beast, for he also is thirsty:"
Rabbi Joshua drank the cool, refresh-
ing water, and watched her draw
some more for his camel. Then, with
a smile, he laid his hand upon her
pretty head, saying: "Daughter of
Israel, I am pleased with you, for
you have acted as kindly as our good
mother Rebecca did at the well."
But the little girl answered slyly:
"Good stranger, if I have acted as
kindly as our mother Rebecca, you
have not been as thoughtful as the
faithful Eliezer, who gave her pretty
bracelets and rings for her trouble."
Rabbi Joshua, knowing that she
was only speaking in jest, laughed,
too. "Kind maiden," he said, "you
need no jewels, for you already have
more than the most faithful Eliczer
could give you,-a wise tongue, an
innocent heart and good nature."

THE SHABBOS KUGEL

-

When the Shabbos-kugel's hot,
Steaming in the big round pot,
And my grandpa comes to look,
And he says, the finest cook
Ever lived is our grandma,
And what lucky boys we are,-
Then I think I just can't wait
Till it's lying on my plate;
And I wonder what boys do
When their papa's not a Jew,
And their grandma doesn't make
Such a splendid Shabbos-cake!

A few yearn ago, before the war,
there were exhibitions held in every
large American city of the wonderful
work done by the Jewish artists of
the Berate] School in Jerusalem. Pro-

the school, had come over to America
to show us the handsome and useful

money could be used for the support
of the school. And, if you were lucky,

beautiful things you saw there-the

photo frame of carved olive wood,

In that case you will have good
cause to remember and think of the
beautiful work of the Bezalel School.

Professor Schatz has bought ma-

ANIT-SEMITISM IN LATVIA.

PARIS. - Advice, received here
from Riga indicate that anti-Semit-
ism in Latvia has considerably in-
creased more recently and is par-

veil their attitude. Recently the
government has issued an order
withdrawing all passports from Jews
who previously resided in Latvia on
the basis of the Russian law enacted
in 1893.
