"Back to better than normal," said
II. W. Peters, general manager of the
l'ackard-Detroit branch, east Jefier-
son at St. Antoine, when interviewed
concerning business during the month
of April. "During the past month,
we did a $400,000 business and de-
livered a total of 111 vehicles. Ever
since the first of the year business
has been on an increase until last
month we really made an admirable
record.
"There is no question but that'
sales are harder to get than they were
last year, but the public seems to
be pretty well sold on quality in mo-
tor vehicles and have found them
to be the cheapest in the long run.
Our getting more than our share of
the business can be best explained
by the enthusiasm of our salesmen
and their confidence in the product
they have t osell. We are not stop-
ping at merely selling Packard cars
but our service department is keep-
ing our customers sold on Packard.
The 'Now that we have your money
you can be damned' days are over
and the firms that insist on sticking
to this policy are rushing to suicide
rapidly."

AFTER THE PURCHASE PRICE—DEPENDABILITY

Dodge Brothers have never lost sight of
the fact that dependability must be in-
cluded in the purchase price of their car.

Because of its dependability, the United
States Government, officially selected this
car withoLt solicitation, for the strenuous
service which the battlefields of France
demanded.

CHEVROLET PRICE
MEETS PUBLIC'S WISHES

NEW

Starkweather Buick Company

The announcement of the new
price of the Chevrolet "Four-Ninety"
touring car—$645—comes at just
the right moment. The public wants
to buy automobiles. It wants to buy
them now—at this season.
The manufacturers want to estab-
lish sound business relations with the
public in supplying demand. The
public wants the utmost value for its
money. The new Chevrolet prices''
meet these terms. They give the pub-
lic what it wants—what it has been
waiting for.
The yost manufacturing facilities
of the Chevrolet Motor Company
alone enable it to build and sell such
a car at such a price. The increased
demand for Chevrolet "Four-Ninety"
models make it possible for all of the
company's plants to produce these
cars in quantities which assure sav-
ings in manufacturing cost.

Presiding Justice of New York Courts
Elected Grand Master at Atlantic
City Convention.

ATLANTIC CITY, N. .1—A meg-
' sage from President !larding, read
by Grand Master Gustave Ilartman,
New York, at the closing session of
the Independent Order of B'rith Ab-
reborn, in convention at the Steel
Pier, brought a great demonstration
from the 1,000 delegates present. The
letter follows:
"My Dear Judge Hartman: Your
telegram of May 12 finds me con-
' fronted with so much public business
that I am compelled to express my
regrets at being unable to participate
I in the convention of the Independent
Order of B'rith Abraham at Atlantic
City. Were it possible, I should take
: much pleasure in personally present-
ing my greetings and assurance of
good-will and esteem to the repre-
sentatives of a great section of our
Jewish population.
"Our large and patriotic Jewish
population has ever stood as a testi-
mony to the success of our institu-
tions of democracy and universal
toleration. Those institutions have
earned for our country the devoted
loyalty of all classes among our citi-
zens, have made possible our equality
of human opportunity, and in turn
deserve the unqualified support of all
Americans. I know that from the
great body of Jewish citizenry they
will at all times have that support.
"Very trulyyours,
"WARREN G. IIARDING."
Judge Aaron Levy, Chief Judge of
the Municipal Court of New York
City, was elected Grand Master over
Max Silberstein, also of New York.
Max L. Hollander, of New York, was
unanimously elected secretary;
Adolph Stern, New York, first deputy
grand master, and Julius Frienden-
burg, Boston, second deputy.
The grand master suggested that
the order should make its contribu-
tions to Palestine by voluntary sub-
' scriptions of the individual lodges.
The convention, by formal resolution,
disapproved of the attacks by Henry
Ford's newspaper. The restrictive
immigration bill was also condemned.

which comprise the Pentateuch of the
Old Testament, and which has been
brought to this city by Samuel Arky,
after a visit to his native city of
Ushorod' C choslocaki whe er fe it
had been in ze the possession
hie
family for 150 years, was presented
by Arky to the B•nai Abraham Con-
gregation.
The scroll was a gift from Arky's
grandmother to her husband, Arky
said, and it took the writer more
than five years to complete the work.
Its original cashmere cover, embroi-
dered with intricate colored designs,
was presented with it. Arky said
that he had great difficulty in locat-
ing the scroll because the temple in
which it was kept by his relatives had
been partially destroyed by the fire
of the invading troops.
The text of this Bible, or "Torah,"
as it is known in the Hebrew, was
written entirely by hand and a period
of fasting and religious meditation
was required before the scholar was
permitted to do the work. It was
written with a quill and black ink,
as no colored ink or gilding is al-
lowed to appear in this type of re-
ligious manuscript, and square He-
brew character were used. It con-
tains 600,000 letters and only an ex-
pert can read it, because all punctua-
tion, accents and vowel, have been
omitted. The writing has been ar-
ranged in squarea to correspond to
the pages of a book, and the lines
have been ruled with a stylus.
Arky said this manuscript was con-
sidered by experts who have seen it
to be a fine example of that type of
work, and would be highly valued by
book collectors.
