NEW HOME OF WAGNER BROTHERS, INC.

An interesting addition to De-
troit's "Automobile Row” is the new
home of 'Wagner Brothers, Inc., tlis-
tributors of Stearns automobiles,
which is nearing completion at 3440
East Jefferson avenue. The interior
decorations are being carried out by
l'aul W. Selin Company, one of
whose notable achievements was the
decorating of the Cathedral it Salt
Lake City.
According to Mr. W. C. Wagner,
vice-president and general manager
of the firm, approximately $150,000
is being expended on their new guar-
.... tern and the display room, which will
have a capacity of 15 Stearns auto-
mobiles, bids fair to out-rival any in
the city.
"The sale of over 300 Stearns
cars during the past year, in this ter-
ritory, necessitated our taking new
and larger quarters," said Mr. Wag-
ner. Our custom body department ,
long a dominant feature of Stearns
service, . together with, the 25,000
feet of floor apace for service, which

will he under the personal supervi-
sion of Mr. Daye Compton, a pioneer
in the automobile business, having
been connected us on executive for
some of the largest automobile
manufacturers, should be interesting
to the automotive world," he con-
tinued.
The officers of Wagner Brothers,
Inc., are II. A. Wagner, president;
W. C. ‘Vagner, vice-president and
general manager; G. S. Wagner, see-
retary-treasurer
George Pletsch, long, identified
with the Paige automobile, and more
recently sales promotion manager for
One of the largest manufacturers,
will continue in his capacity as sales
manager, with a force of capable
salesmen of long experience. The
salesmen are: E. A. McKee, E. II.
Zimmerman, Ed. Toepel and Cy.
Seymour.
The new Used Car Department of
W agner Brothers, Inc., is managed
by Russel Bothell and is located at
4039 Woodward avenue.

Development of c motor truck en-
gine with several features of design
that bid fair to become common
practice,in motor truck engines and
the introduction of a revolutionary
transmission design by which botit
speed and pulling power are in-
creased to a large extent along with
added economy in operation -these
are innovations made public by the
General MOtors Truck Company with
the introduction to the trade of the
G. M. C. line fort 1921.
In addition are many other minor
rilinements such as electric lighting
systems, pressure gun lubrication of
the chassis and nicreased strength of
frames and other parts. The 1:121
line comprises live models: three-
quarter ton, one ton, two ton, three
and one-half ton, and five ton ca-
pa•ities, an. addition of one model,
the three quarter ton, over the line
of the last two years.

since the water circulates immedi-
ately around the walls, and also the
big economy of replacement in cases
of damaged cylinder walls. Replac-
ing a sleeve is a matter of only a few
„hours and can be done without re-
moving the engine block from the
chassis. No reboring of cylinder is
ever necessary.
Positive pressure lubrication, sup-
plied by a gear pump, is used
throughout the engine with a spe-
cially designed oil pump which in ad-
dition to thoroughly settling and
screening the oil before it re-enters
the system permits the extraction of
an per cent of the sediment from the
system with the loss of only about
a pint of oil.

Vexing Problem. Solved.
Solution: of the most vexing prob-
lem that has confronted motor truck
designers since the !winning of the
industry is seat in the new 'trans-
mission, which is used on all models
above the one ton. This transmis-
sion, accurately named hie G-M-C
two - range transmission, provides
kith speed in direct drive as well us
'Wiling 11.10r in the lower gears and
at the sumo time does not necessi-
tate the use of an engine of exces-
sive size, makinf.,- the truck's opera-
tion economical.
The increase in sliced is made pos-
sible by the use of a higher geared
rear axle than has been used-here-
tofore in (lilt-C trucks, while the re-
. quirements of pulling timer are fur-
nished by loving the countershaft of
the transmiaSion an extra gear re-
4r
duction.
transmission countershaft has
two sets of constant mesh gears of
different ratios, instead of one as in
the regular. type four-speed motor
truck transmissiOn. These sets are
controlled by an, extra lever, giving
the truck two distinct power ranges,
each wit h threw speeds forward
and a reverse, direct drive remaining,
the same regardless of the range.

• Add More Speed.
Approximately 50 -per ukn more
speed, in direct drive, has been added
by this two-range transmission and
at the same time 30 per cent more
pulling power has been furnished
through the low range of the trans-
mission. And only five.major parts
are added to those used in a:regular
type four-speed transmission.
The G-M-C has been designed with
three fundamental ideas in mind; in-
creased efficiency, accessibility and
low repair costr and longevity.
It represents the accumulative ex-
perience of years of motor, truck
building and has been designed with
regard to the finest and most im-
proved advancements in gas engine
design. • The C-51-C engine is four-
cylinder, fimr-cycle of the "4," head
type and follows u tendency to a
longer stroke.anitsmaller bore than
is seen in some four-cylinder truck
engines. It is built in three sizes
for use in the various G-M-C models.
Removablo ,Gylinder Walls.
Removable cylinder walls of the
"wet" type are a feature of the new
engine. These are in the form of
cast iron Sleeves that are pressed
into the cylindar block and are held
rigidly in plane at the top and bot-
tom, The- sleeves are machined to
an accurate thickness so that their
expansion is uniform, insuring not
only a minimum of wear but also in-
creased efficiency of power from each
explosion as compression is main-
tained at all times. Added to this
feature is that it better cooling,

ject in the way of income tax, Lord

Islington said, three pennies go to-
Wards the maintenance of the Briti-

ish garrison in Palestine and he

therefore believes that Parliament is
fully entitled to pass upon the ques-

tion of the mandate. Lord Laming-

regarding the Palestine mandate, de-
siring to know whether the wishis
of the Arabs had been consulted and
whether it was not truo that the
opinions of the populations at Pal-
estine and Syria as have been ascer-
tained by the United States Com-

ignored by the terms of the mandate.
Lord CI117.011 in reply said that until
the Council of the League of Na-

it could not be submittal to the

Parliament will be fully in a position

Ignition by Magneto.

The new G-M-C two-range transmission ans ti
the
problem of giving a motor truck both speed and pulling
power and at the same time delivering these forces at
an economical cost.
This transmission is one of seven distinctive features
of motor truck construction now embodied in G-M-C
trucks.
Such refinements as removable cylinder walls, remov:
able valve lifters, pressure lubrication and many others
make G-M-C trucks a step in advance in efficient', eco-
nomical hauling units. •
These G-M-C features will be exhibited at the Automo-
bile Show.

Ignition is by magneto, the igni-
„licit being entirely separate from the
lighting system. • In addition further
guarantee against repk.cement diffi-
culties has been made in. such fea-
tures as placing the motor support
legs on the flywheel housing instead
of on the crank case, providing a re-
movable cylinder head and making
all wearing parts replaceable.
The engine has a wealth of pro-
jected bearing areas and has been
built with a large factor of safety
in all its parts from the best pos-
sible materials.
All models except the three-quar-
ter ton are equipped with electric
lights, generator and battery, all of
special design and manufacture and
built extra size for truck use. Elec-
tric. wiring is carried in flexible steel
tubing built as a "harness” and is
centered on the dash in a neat in-
strument case with a hinged panel
to give access to all switch connec-
tions.
The three-quarter and one ton
models have a new wheel of metal
fellow, wood spoke type and the one
ton model is furnished with cord
tires as standard equipment. _Frames
in the heavy duty models are deep
pressed steel and heat treated, and
the radius rods on these models have
been lengthened to make the drive
more nearly a straight line. Extra
brake area has been added to the
three-quarter and on ton models.
In other details, the chassis are
practically the same as those of for-
mer yearn.

Engine Efficiency Increased.
The carburction system has been
designed also to told to the engine
efficiency.. The mixture is heated
from the time it is being formed in
the carburetor bowl until it reaches
the first chamber and is superheated
just before it goes into the inlet
valves. A special manifold is used
fur this and it is adjustable for vari-
ous climatic conditions.
Every wearing part of the engine
is replaceable and special attention
has been given to the accessibility
of these parts. One feature new: to
motor truck engines is the removable
lifter assembly. The valve lifters
and rollers are held inn case, fas-
tened in position by Cap screws.
Access to this is through a hand plate
on the side of the engine and, when
the assembly is removed, direct ac-
cess to the crank is had without re-
moving the oil pan.
In the cooling system the (I-51-C
engine has a combination pump and
thermo syphon system, the pump be-
ing mounted high on the engine so,
that the pump driven water is thrown
directly around the tiring chambers
while the circulation about the cylin-
der walls is by thermo syphon action.
This approaches the ideal in cooling,
giving the coldest wales on the hut-
test sections and warmer water
where warmth is essential.

LONDON.—It became known here
that Drs. Klee and Soden heimer and
Alfred Friedman, leading Zionists of
Germany, have ,formed what they
call a new federation of German
Zionists. Their program resembles
that which has more recently been
formulated by Zionist leaders in
America. They want tb concentrate
on Zionist work in Palestine only and
do not want to pay any attention to
the immediate work required in that
country. They have pledged before
the Zionist executive the demand
that the new organization be recog-
nized as a federation.
