Twentieth Annual Detroit Automobile Show

The Feature Attraction of the Week

Numerous Factors
Combine to Make
Exhibit a Success

With more than 300 passenger cars,
100 trucks and 65 accessories, the
1921 show to be staged by the De-
troit Auto Dealers' Association in the
new Morgan and Wright building on
East Jefferson avenue, March 19 to

President.

The apparent determination on the
part of the 1911 buyers to scan the
offerings with a critical eye of the
expert has been demonstrated at all
previous exhibitions this year and in
order to give full opportunity for in-
spection and examination, Nfanager
Shuart has arranged a musical pro-
gram that will greatly enhance the
pleasure of visitors at the same time
destracting as little as possible from
the liminess at hand that of examin-
ing and buying and selling cars.
Ceremonies in keeping with the
dignity of the event will mark the
opening at which a prominent city
official will be selected to act in the
absence of Mayor Colleens in felici-
tating the association on it's splendid
effort and President A. L. Zecken-
dorf will respond. A special musi-

between winter and spring and con-
fidently is expected to eclipse in point
of 'visitors entertained and in in-
auguarating a real buying movement.
Many factors combine to assure
unprecedented success not the least
of which is the handsome new struc-
ture so admirably adapted to the pur-
pose and no easily accessible by auto-
mobile, street car or bus. The mani-
fest interest in the welfare of the in-
dustry that led officials of the Morgan
and Wright branch' of the United
States Tire and Rubber Co., to ten-
der the use of the building Is attested
in their efforts to speed up contrac-
tors working feverishly to get it into
shape for the opening.

few there are who have not begun to
question themselves as to whether
they can afford to 111A- 11 an automobile
or whether they can afford not to
own a car.
II is to this class that the shows
throughout the country naturally are
making the strongest appeal. The
confirmed owner and enthusiast al-
ready has acquired considerable
knowledge of his own and other cars
and is well up on automotive details
generally. That person will be a cer-
tain visitor, imbued with the idea of
examining critically all the new im-
provements and refinements offered
by his own favorite manufacturer and
the others who will participate. The
person who does not own his own
car is the one who will necessarily
be the most eager in the search for
the best and most attractive offering
within reach of his purse. And the
question that will arise within every
isitor who does not own his own
car will be "I wonder if 1 am one of
that 11 per cent who should, but do
not, own their own cars,"

There are but three qualifications nec-

Capacity and Capital. Possessing
these any person can make a down

and efficient form of transportation.
The automobile long since has been
graduated from the realm of the mil-
lionaire's toy and the humble citizen

nish the means for recreation 011

transportation for him-elf and his
salesmen. Figures of the General
Motors Acceptance Corporation show
that approximately 50 per cent of the
cars being sold today are being mer-
chandized to persons of good finan-
cial standing 10111 who have essential
uses for their cars on the credit plan.
Statistics from Michigan, Ohio,
Kentucky and \Vest Virginia show
that 38.6 per cent of sales of passen-
ger cars in cities in those states were
made on the credit plan and 39.2 per
cent of the sales to farmers on de-
ferred payments. The city buyer, the
figures show, uses his credit for 8.7
months and the farmer for 8.9.
Detroit auto dealers and their rep-
resentatives at the show will be equip-
ped with all information covering the
deferred payment plan for the infor-
mation and guidance of visitors.
Exhibition of Trucks.
One of the most interesting fea-
tures of the 20th annual 1)etroit Au-
tomobile Show will be the large ex-
hibit of motor trucks—"The Freight
Cars of the Highway." This exhibit
comprises all sizes and types of up-
to-the minute trucks from the three-
quarter ton express to the monstrous
five-ton truck.
