Life in 1920 was $769,979, an increase
of $204.348 for the year. The Jan-
uary edition of the monthly maga-
zine published by the Detroit Life
Insurance company is off the presses.
Concerning the general business con-
ditions in Michigan the magazine con-
tains the following editorial summary:
"A careful survey of general business
and industrial conditions throughout
the state of Michigan indicates a com-
plete change for the better. Not only
are the automobile and other machine
manufacturing companies resuming
operations on a substantial scale. but
miffing evidently has increased. Fann-
ing in agricultural districts throughout
Michigan indicates that farmers are
planning for larger crops ill 1921.

merchants in Russia. More recently he has been residing in this country.

Chief Rabbi Hertz, General Smuts, the South African Prime Minister, paid

store in Denver, Colo., is dead at the age of 72. He was president of the
City Board of Charities, a member of the Board of the Denver Home for

LONDON—A considerable drop in the prices of flour, condensed milk,
naphtha, oil, coal and other living necessaries is reported in a dispatch from
Ierusalern. The Palestine government has withdrawn the embargo on

export of barley which has been maintained for some time, A Swedish
steamer with a large cargo of provisions and materials is expected to reach
Palestine during next week. It is understood that the government of Sue-
len is anxious to secure commercial relations with Palestine and is chiefly
responsible for the consignment now on its way.
