Extensive Zionist Work
During Year.
The Defender, of the White and
Blue, one of the senior Young Judaea
circles in Detroit, last Sunday cele-
brated the first anniversary of their
existence with a banquet held at the
Karmel Kosher restaurant.
Barney Jaroslow, organizer of the
circle, outlined the struggles the
circle had to undergo during the first
months of its existence, and pointed
out that the handful that remained
loyal finally succeeded in building up
ane of the finest Judavan groups in
the city.
Samuel Heyman, president of the
Young Judaea Council, then installed
the newly elected officers, as follows:
Sol Figelsky, president; S. Axelrod,
vice-president; I. Levine, secretary;
Hyman Cohen, treasurer; L. Stotske,
sergt.-at-arms.
Following the installation of these
officers. each one gave a toast and
Philip Slomovitz, one of the guests
of the evening, gave a short talk on
"Fight and l'ep in Young Judaea."
The keynote address of the evening
was delivered by Herbert Parzen,
leader of the circle, who told the boys
that the Jewish people now expected
action and not words from thetn, and
pointed out that for the second year
they will have to begin a more ex-
'ensive Zionist work than heretofore
pursued,
Other toasts were given by Jack
Ketai, Leonard Milling, Joseph I'ike
Ind Harry Thomas. The evening's
