Suppose Nobody Cared
Suppose
Suppose
nobody cared what should
become of those thousands
of crippled children of De-
troit whose little twisted
limbs and broken bodies
cry out for sympathy and
help!
nobody cared what should
happen to the aged and
infirm, whom disease, mis-
fortune and the fleeting
years have robbed of their
youth and their capacity
for self-support!
Suppose
Suppose
nobody cared what should
be the lot of Detroit's
orphans—those fatherless,
motherless, aye, homeless
boys and girls whose de-
pendency pleads for our
aid'.
nobody cared what char-
acter-building influences
should be thrown about
the youth of Detroit —
what assistance should be given to
the blind, the sick and the needy—
what efforts should be made to
stamp out disease and crime—
Just Suppose that Nobody Cared!
but Somebody Does Care
—and because somebody cares and has always cared,
Detroit, the mighty and loving mother that she is,
has ever responded to the summons of duty—her
needy have received help, her sick have been nursed,
her orphans and blind and aged have been provided
with homes, her girls and boys have been guarded
from evil and surrounded with the forces of good—
and Detroit's soul goes marching on.
Detroit Appeals To You
again as she has done once each
year for the past two years. De-
troit, in the name of her united
charities, in the name of all her
public servants who are laboring
for the common good, appeals to
YOU appeals to every man and
woman to come forward and do
his or her share in furthering the
public weal—appeals to you to do
and to give to the extent of your
ability that this great community
may rise to the fulfilment of her
nigh obligation.
—
Detroit's Honor Obligation for 1921
—the amount required to meet
adequately the needs of our var-
ious charitable and character-
building institutions—is $2,560,-
000. Next week to every citizen
will come the opportunity to give
his share toward this worthy
fund. And when that opportunity
comes, let everyone be ready.
the excuse of Cain, "Am I my
brother's keeper?" Nay, let us
be thankful that the call is here
and go forward as one man tc
meet our responsibility. As the
citizens of this happy, this vig-
orous, this prosperous city, let
our answer to the high summons
of the Community Fund again
vindicate Detroit's proud reputa-
tion of doing great things greatly.
Let no one shrug his shoulders
and say, "The problem is not
mine." Let no one give voice to
