to King Emanuel of Italy at the death of the Italian Naval Commander,
Bianchini. Bianchini was recently reported to have been murdered in an
attack made by Bedouins upon a passenger train near Damascus.

Bucharest to call a congress representing all the Jews of Roumania, Transyl-

day poultry no less than $340,000 in illegitimate profits which unscrupulous

tionist elements in this city that they have decided to organize and to issue
a special organ through which they will fight anti-Semitism in this country.
All synagogues in this city held a special service in celebration of the Polish
victory over the Bolsheviki.

Satisfaction that the women of Palestine enjoy equal rights and that
under Jewish supervision I'alesine would grant its women civil and political
rights, was expressed by Mrs. Carrie Chapman Catt at the International
Congress of the Women's Suffrage Society in Geneva, at which Dr. Rosa W.
Straus represented the Palestine Women's Equal Suffrage Society.

Society of Americans in Warsaw request that Mr. Jacob Massel, the soci-
ety's European director. should remain in Europe, according to advices re-
ceived here from the Polish capital. The request was telegraphed to Mr.
Hassel who is said to be in Danzig that instead of going to America he
should return to Warsaw.

Abel Davis of Chicago, overseas commander of the I32d infantry. is com-
missioned brigadier general of infantry. Colonel Milton J. Foreman, who
commanded the 122d field articllery in France, is given the rank of brigadier
general.

declaring that under no circumstances will he work together with any mem-
ber of the Mizrachi.




Morris Engleman, who has just returned from a visit to Hungary in the
interests of the Joint Distribution Committee, brings with him a New Year
greeting and a message expressive of the heartfelt gratitude of the Hun-
garian Jews for the help extended to then, in their dire need by their Ameri-
can co-religionists. The message is signed by the members of the Hungarian
branch of the Joint Distribution Committee.




Samuel Lehman. composer of popular music, was run down by an auto
and killed in New York. He was the author of "Everybody Works But I
Father," and many other songs which have been sung throughout the coun-
try. Ile also wrote the music for many musical productions. The deceased
was the son of Joseph Lehman and lived at 160 E. 94th street. He was S
composer and traveling conductor with the Winter Garden Company.

Miss Jane Manner returned from a three months stay abroad recently,
bringing with her exclusive reading rights of Zangwill's new play, The
Cockpit." She was entertained at luncheon by Mr. and Mrs. Zangwill and
met their three charming children in their home, Far End. East Preston.
Another interesting experience was the day spent with Mr. and Mrs. Claude
Montefiore at Cold East Southampton.

According to a report recently received from Berlin more than 800.000
en-dollar food draft packages have been distributed in Germany since the
American Relief Administration warehouse was opened in Hamburg. besides
50,000 fifty-dollar parcels by the Hoover organization, which has established
s local Berlin branch, opened recently. American business men arriving in
Berlin are winning popularity by bringing along food drafts, which they
scatter among friends and acquaintances unable to obtain them through
"riends or relatives in the United States,
