For this purpose all organization was recently formed by some of the foremost Jewish scholars in America. called the American Academy for Jewish Research. The expressed pur- pose of this organization is "to enable Jewish scholars in America to assume their rightful place in American Jewry, and to raise Jewish scholar- ship to the &gritty and position neces- sary to assure its healthy and success- ful development in the future." They seek to attain this goal by setting up a high standard of Jewish learning, by encouraging greater study of Jew- ish science and by aiding in whatever duty will lie to organize the Jewish way possible those active in Jewish research work. Among the tirst activities of the so- scholars of this country into one har- monious body in order to enable co- ordinated and cooperative effort on a large scale. It will also serve as a medium between Jewish scholars in America and those abroad. All American Jewish scholars who have distinguished themselves by haV- ing made original contributions to Jewish learning and are presently ac- tive in Jewish research work arc eligi- ble as regular members. Prominent scholars in foreign countries may be- come corresponding members. At its organization meeting the following officers were elected: Professor Louis Ginzberg, president; Professor Gotthard Deutsch, vice-president; Professor Henry Halter, secretary, and l'rofessor Jacob Z.
