First Appeal to Gentiles.
\l'hen the American Jewish Relief
Committee of which Louis Nlarshall
is chairman, announced that it would
ask Gentiles as well as Jews to aid
the destitute Jewish men, women and
children of Eastern ,Europe, it was
embarking upon a policy unique in
the history of Judaism, according to
Mr. Rosenfelt.
"This was the first time that Jews
had ever gone outside their own
people to ask for help," lie continued.
"The generous response by people
of all creeds has been most gratifying
and has been of vital assistance in
providing food, clothing and medi-
cine for the stricken people who have
been war victims for six years. The
need has been so great that but for
the liberal contributions of Gentiles.
our work would have been severely

Three Committees Combine.
Funds raised by the American Jew-
ish Relief Committee are disbursed
in Europe by the Joint I)istribution
Committee of which Felix 'Warburg
is chairman. The Joint Distribution
Committee also distributes, funds
raised by the Central and People's
Relief Committee, two other Jewish
fund-raising organizations. The New
York Appeal for $7,500,000 for the
Jewish llhar Sufferers of Eastern
Europe represents the combined ef-
forts of these three committees. ,
While the funds raised are primar-
ily for Jewish relief, Nfr. Rosenfelt
emphasized that in distributing re-
lief, Gentiles as well as Jews, par-
ticularly among the destitute chil-
dren, are beneficiaries. Included
among the recent relief contribu-
