An Interesting Story

According to the Novi Diennik, a Cracow new•paper, there are about
Jewish prisoners of war still languishing in exile in Siberia. They art
subject to the severest wartime discipline, but a great many of them are,
oi,ving to previously acquired skill, engaged upon the manufacture of cigars
and cigarettes. The question of repatriating them to their native countries
is now the subject of negotiations.

The evolution of the telephone pole, once a seedling, then a
towerirg tree in the wilderness and now beat- Mg the wi.es th.eit
carry the messages of millions, is material for more thrm Co
every-day story. Th.: cutting, the trimming, the hauling, rafting
and drifting over the white rapids and across still lakes, all this
is unusually interesting.
This year we wit use thousands of these towering trees --straight
cedar poles-and thousands of trio:mums to help maintain and ex-
pand your telephone service. Doss the lifting of the receiver bring
to you the thought of what all this means in
money and effort ? In 1915 these poles cost
$5.43 each and today they cost $13.05.
