Waltz Contest and Raffle Feature Program—Many New Members Join Organization. One of the most successful affairs in its season of continued successes, was the big membership party given by the Young People's Auxiliary of Shaarey Zedek, Wednesday evening, March 24, in the gymnasium of the synagogue, corner Willis and Brush streets. The gathering, arranged every year for the purpose of bringing into closer contact the large membership of the organization, as well as af- fording those not affiliated an oppor- tunity to join, brought together over tive hundred young people. Hun- dreds of applications for membership were accepted during the evening. A prize waltzing contest was an interesting feature of the dance that concluded the program. The con- testants. were many and competition was keen. However, the judges voted unanimously in favor of Miss Janet Grano and Nathan J. Gould, as win- ners of the first prize. Two addi- tional prizes were awarded. Finzel's orchestra furnished the music. The Entertainment Committee, beaded by Vice-President Harry Sa tovskv, and assisted by a capable staff consisting of Ruth Blumenthal, Nly- ron Schlissel, Henrietta Gottlieb, Esther Buchalter. Charles Rubiner and Rose Weinstein, achieved one of the biggest successes in the history of the Auxiliary. The activities began with a big raffle, each newcomer purchasing a ticket immediately upon his entrance. The cards were then gathered to- gether and the lucky numbers drawn and announced. The prizes—they were numerous and varied—were then distributed to the winners. The whole performance kept the audience in continuous gales of laughter. Seymour Simons, composer of the lyrics of "Let er Flicker," delighted his hearers with sonic of his newest compositions. Refreshments were served during the evening. CONGREGATIONAL NEWS.
