Budapest.—The present Hungarian
Government, if so it may be called,
Is a mere gang of murderers. Its
outrages against the Jews are inde-
scribable. In me tell of one case
which especially incites the local Jew-
ish public opinion. It is concerning
a very well known merchant and re-
spectable citizen, Baruch Reich, the
son-in-law of the Buchacher Rabbi,
Meyer Arent.
The story of the tragic death of this
man reads like a dime novel and it is
almost impossible to believe that it
should have occurred at the end of
1919, and particularly in Europe, be-
tween Vienna and l'est.
December 15th, 1919, Mr. Baruch
Reich left Vienna for Pest for busi-
ness reasons. When a number of
(lays passed after his departure, and
no news reached his family, it was
thought nothing out of the ordinary,
for postal conditions are very bad in
Central Europe. Soon, however, his
family, a wife and five children, be-
came suspicious and began to investi-
gate. It was discovered that Mr.
Reich was removed from the train
at Cameron by soldiers and officers
because of his "papers."

A Dastardly Ruse.

Extremely moved by this in forma
Lion and fully of anxiety about the
fate of the victim, his friends began
a vigorous search and inquiry,
w herever and thru whomever pos-
sible. At last the Hungarian Repre-
sentation in Vienna received the
new; from Pest that Baruch Reich
is in a guardhouse. No harm is to
be done to him. He will only be in-
terned. "God be praised for that,"
said his poor family, "so long as he
lives he will sooner or later come
home." After all what could be had
against a peaceful trader whose
papers also, as the family well knew,
were in proper order.
The quieting news from Budapest,
however, was only a ruse to silence
his family. And since no communi-
cations were received from the vic-
tim himself, and rumors spread that
he is no longer among the living, his
family began to agitate that at least
the corpse be surrendered, to be
buried according to Jewish rite.
They threatened to scandalize the
Hungarian Government by disclosing
the incident in the outside press.
The Ilarty government decided to
send a "commission" to Cameron.
From the evidence of a waiter and a
number of women it was brought out
that during the night two corpses
were taken to the forest in a wagon.
The other hotly is said to be that of a
certain Mr. Zoger, who was taken off
he train together with Mr. Reich, also
because of his "papers."
All this has been disclosed thru
external evidence. What has actually
occurred to Beruch Reich, and what
has become of his corpse—the two
questions directed by the Vienna po-
lice tq the city administration of
Cameron, have as yet remained un-
answered. Moreover, the Hungarian
Military Command notified the
widow that it was obliged to discon-
tinue the investigations, for the mur-

derers cannot be found.

APPEAL TO PREMIER.

No further interpretation is glee-
essary. The attorney for the stricken
family, Herr Dr. Karkoss, on the 9th
of February sent the following tel-
egram to the Hungarian Premier:
"1 take the honor to inform Your
Excellency of the following incident:
On the 15th of December, 1919, the
Polish citizen, Baruch Reich, left
Vienna on the morning train for
Budapest. At the Cameron station
he was removed from the train ob-
viously for the revision of his travell-
ing papers. Since then he has dis-
appeared. It is beyond a doubt that a

Essex Almost Doubles
Light Car Endurance

Essex Has Performacce Like the Costliest Fine Cars---
Its World Endurance Record Has Never Been Rivaled

The most important thing Essex has
proved is that weight and size are no
longer necessary to finest car quality.
Its 3037 miles in 50 hours is a world
endurance record. The test was official.
Supervisors of the A. A. A. certified the
Essex stock chassis in every detail.
Never before was a car driven at top
speed for 50 hours. The grind was equal
to years of road use. Yet the Essex
showed no measurable wear.

What car, the Essex size and weight,
can even attain a mile-a-minute speed,
much less keep it up for 50 hours?

Such Endurance as You

Want in Your Car

These decisive tests proved Essex not
only the supreme performer of the light
car field, but they showed that the mod-
erate priced, economical Essex has such
endurance and dependability as few large,
high priced cars offer.
Greater size could add nothing to Es-
sex. It has the qualities, weight and size
are built to give—riding comfort, solid-
ness, distinction and smooth, quiet pace.
But in addition it has fuel, oil and tire
economy. And its great durability means
freedom from repair costs and positive, de-
pendable transportation.

Essex is easy to operate. Driving does
not fatigue. Its quick response to the
lightens touch and its cmooth, restful com-
fort in motion, account for this.

That is why so many womne are Essex
owners. They appreciate its safety, too.
Its controls are simple and instantaneous.
It makes fast time, with security, even in
difficult traffic.

Essex Wins On Quality
Minus Useless Weight

Essex won recognition on the issue of
finest quality without useless weight and
size. That issue is uppermost today.
You will take pride in your Essex from
the first. Its beauty, luxurious fittings and
its performance give it distinction every-
where. And time will increase your re-
spect for it. You will come to rely abso-
lutely on its dependability. You will find
it always ready for any demands you may
make.
These are reasons why Essex set a
world's sales record in its first year. And
orders are now so far ahead it is certain
even that unrivaled mark will be surpassed
this year.
Thousands, realizing this, are placing
their orders now. We advise that you do
the same, to avoid disappointment.
