Farmer Street" CIIMITZ & SIIRODER Marge. 53-57 Farmer Street Jewish Delegation at Peace Canter. ence Investigate Paris.—The committee of the Jew- ish Delegations at the Peace Confer. ence has been obliged to take steps against the persecutions of the Jews in Jugo Slavic. The authorities of this state have started the expulsion of a great number of Jews who have lived in this country for many years. This measure Is a breach of the Peace Treaty which by Article 3 guarantees that all persons living at the date of the Peace Treaty in the territory of Jugoslavia are to enjoy full —citizen- ship. Among those who have been expelled are women and old men whose descendants have served In the Jugo-Slav army. They are In an exiremely diflicult situation, as no Country allows them to cross its fron- tiers. The measure has caused great constemtion among the Jews in Jugo- Stasis, who feel that their security is menaced. In view of the liberal traditions of Serbia they had never ex- pected such treatment at the hands of the new State. The committee of the Jewish Delegation in Parish has sent a memorandum on the subject to the .Iugo-Slav Delegates at the Peace Con- ference. Rebuilt and Refinished in Our Own Shops. "The English Churchman" 'also writes as follows: "It was not without cause that a committee of the Jew- ish Delegations at the Peace Confer- ence was formed to watch the inter- ests of the Jews throughout the world. Persecution seems to be the order of the day in a considerable part of Europe. Quite recently, for example, the State of Jugo-Slavia, which was practically established by the Peace Treaty, has begun to vio- late some important provisions of the Treaty by expelling the Jews from its borders. We are told that the condi- tion of these unhappy exiles is de- plorable, because they are not only driven fro mtheir homes, but they also find it impossible to obtain other rest- ing places. In days gone by Serbia used to grant them liberty to reside among its people, and it is remarkable, after all that has happened, that the new State should be intolerant when the old was liberal. The Committee to which we have referred has made a strong representation to the Jug°. Slavian Delegation in Paris, but the effect remains to be seen. Meanwhile, those who are looking for the fulfil- ment of prophecy must be struck by the fact that the Jews are in so many places subject to persecution, and thereby compelled to look for a new home, and that the only one now open- ing to them Is their ancient land."
