whichhas been just received by the

that more than 7,000,000 Marks had

CHANUKAH

BY ENOCH MEBS

The IMaccabees, long years ago,
Whose mighty deeds at valorous heights
Had set a darkened world aglow,
Have given is the "Feast of Lights."

The temple, built of stone and lime,
Whose desecration spread dismay,
Is now symbolic of the time—
Bears now its moral for the day.

The trampled temple of our hearts,
Throughout the ages crushed and bled,
Still stands secure in all its parts;
Whose quivering soul is not yet dead.

CHOIR OF 125 VOICES
TO FEATURE BETH EL
CHANUKAH SERVICES

In celebration of Chanukah, the
Feast of Dedication, a great musica l
service will be held at Temple Beth
El on Sunday morning of this week,
on which occasion selections from
Handel's Oratorio "Judas Mecca-
beus" will be rendered by a choir of
one hundred and twenty-five voices
under the leadership of Mr. William
'lowland.
The service promises to be one of
the most inspiring ever held in the
Temple. As appropriate to the sea-
son, Rabbi Franklin will preach a
brief sermon on the topic "When Will
the Messiah Come" The services
begin promptly at 11 o'clock. Every-
body is invited.
