Much interest is centered about the
Thanksgiving dance to be given by
Pisgah Lodge No. 34, I. 0. B. B.,
Thursday evening, November 27, in
the ball-room of the Statler hotel, as
it marks not only the first large so-

Plans for the dance have been com-
pleted by the committee and will in-
clude beside dancing to the music of
one of the finest orchestras in the city,
an interesting program of entertain-

for the occasion.

the committee on arrangements. As-

There was a large attendance at
the meeting of Congregation Eman-

indicative of much greater accom-

A mass meeting will be held short-
ly, the time and place to be an-
nounced in these columns in a later
issue. Parents are urged to be pres-
ent at that time to enroll their chil-
dren in the Sabbath school. The
present small temporary building
will accommodate a limited number
of pupils. and those desiring tuition
must apply quickly. From appear-
ances it is quite apparent that the
facilities of the school will he taxed.

tinue to receive both application for
the enrollment of children as well as
for membership in the synagogue.

Hear Prof. Stanley

Prof. Albert .N. Stanley, Dean of
the University of Nlichigan School of
Music, in his lecture before the Jew-
ish NVoman's Club, Sunday. Novem-
ber on "How to Listen to Symphony
M usic," gave exhaustive interpreta-
tions of art and explained at length
the science of creative listening, giv-
ing many personal reminiscences of
his experiences in many large Europ-
ean musical centers.
Prof. Stanley said that many who
listen to music are tone-deaf and
deeply deplored the fact that pro-
grams Were not studied before instead
of during the concert. He illustrated
tonal effects on both blackboard and
keyboard and in that manner made
portions of the Beethoven Symphony
much clearer to his listeners. He paid
an eloquent tribute to the Detroit
Symphony Orchestra.
The first movement of Beethoven
Fifth Symphony, arranged for four
hands, was exquisitely rendered by
two of Detroit's talented musicians .
Mrs. Avery Ginsberg and Mrs. Her -
man Rosenhain.
