After man was created God did not
make anything new, leaving it now to
man to make things in the world.
But lie told man to work only six
(lays in the week and to rest on the
seventh. The day on which we rest,
the seventh day of the week, is called
"SABBATH," which means "DAY
OF REST." The seventh day of the
week is Saturday, which is our Sab-
bath. For a long time all people
rested on that day, but many hun-
dred years ago some people wanted
to change the day of rest, and made
Sunday their Sabbath. We Jews,
however, would not change the day.
Our Sabbath has always been the
seventh day. Saturday, which begins
on Friday evening and lasts until
Saturday evening. During that time
we are not to do any unnecessary
labor, and in the evening and morn-
ing we go to Temple to pray and to
thank God for being good and kind
to us all week.—Jewish Ledger.

However lowly, it is service still.
Yet dream thou on, and never close
thy sight
To visions of some sweeter, holier
time,
When battle cries shall change to
songs of joy
As hatreds vanish that embitter all,
While human hearts in every clime
and creed
Shall realize at last their lorother-
hood.

When Rabbi Cohen approached his

"My boy!" cried the rabbi.
The doctor turned away his head.
Again came the rabbi's cry, "My
Joseph. How is my boy?"
"He is dying," said the doctor
wringing his friend's hand. "Be
brave, Rabbi, the child is in God's
hands."
"Our boy, our precious jewel."
sobbed the wife meeting hint in the
hall. "What shall we do? \Vhat
shall we do?"
At the word "jewel" Rabbi Collen's

God haul loaned them this boy, and
now he was reclaiming him. A tierce
struggle was going on within the
man. He must practice as he
preached, or, now could his people

He knelt down by the bedside and
gathered his son to his breast, and
as the child breathed his last the

"God has given and God has taken

He murmured the words, but they
