If we have not heard the song or seen the star, it may be that it was be- cause we closed our eye or dulled our ear or looked for happiness where it was not. Within ourselves, and not out yonder in the world, lies peace. In the cleanness of our lives, in the integrity of our motives, in the serv- ice that we render to our fellowmen, in the ideals that impel us, is the golden goals that lure us on, in these must lie our happiness, and not in the vapid pleasures of the moment or in the temptations that allure only in the end to disappoint us with their emptiness. The great Russian Tolstoi, how- ever, in one regard or another he may have erred in his practical philosophy, lid seem to understand the secret of happiness, and on a night like this his "Pilgrim's Song" may come to us with meaning: "My blessing fall on this fair world.
