Simple and pretty was the wedding
of Miss Eva Ashinsky, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. I.. \V. Ashinsky of 2t(
Theodore street, to Mr. Philip Gil-
bert of Cleveland, Ohio, formerly of
Detroit, which took place at the home
of the bride, Sunday, June 15, at 4
o'clock. The ceremony was performed
in the presence of the family and int-
mediate friends by Rabbi J. L. Levin.
Rev. H. D. Bass, with his choir, sang
the marriage service and benediction.
Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert left Sunday eve-
ning for a trip to Buffalo and New
York. They will make their home in
Cleveland.

Philomathie Debating Club.

The seventeenth annual Model
Meeting of the Philoniathic Debating
Club was held Thursday evening.
June 13th, in the Shaarey Zedek audi-
torium. The Judge Harry J. Dingo
man silver trophy cup, a special prize
offered to the winning side of the
debate on the subject, "Resolved.
That Immigration be Restricted for a
l'eriod of Five Years," which was the
feature of this event, was won by the
negative team, composed of Abraham
Branch, Harry Gurovitch and Loui.
Weiss, by a vole of 14 to 12 by the
members of the club, based on the
merits of the debate. The affirmative
was upheld by Lester L. Cohen,
Abraham Goldberg and Leo Kaltman.
For individual superiority in argu-
ment, delivery and team work, the
judges, Messrs. David A. Brown.
Henry C. L. Forler and William.11
Shiek, awarded the gold medal to
Harry Gurovitch and the silver medal
to Abraham Brasch with honorable
mention to Leo Kaltman. The first
two prizes are annual awards of Mr.
Louis Smilansky and Mrs. Jacob G.
Brown, respectively, honorary mem-
bers of the Philornathic society. The
announcement by Chairman Harold
Rosenthal that Judge Dingman will
again present a cup at next year's
Model Meeting was received with
great enthusiasm.
