LONDON.—The Poles have finally
yielded somewhat to the Jews and have
allowed them to enter several important
parliamentary committees. Noah Pri-
lucski has been appointed Jewish repre-
sentative in the committee on parliamen-
tary management; Isaac Greenbaum has
been made a member of the parliamen-
tary food committee and Rabbi Halpern
has been taken into the committee on
war.
The Poles acted in this manner not
from a sense of justice but simply be-
cause they were forced to. When it
came to voting for a president of the
Polish parliament, the Jewish members
held the balance of power. One of the
candidates. was Trompenzinski. His
faction immediately began to negotiate
with the Jewish deputies, who decided
to vote for him because he was more
satisfactory for the Jewish interests.
Trompenzinski was elected and his ad-
herents therefore chose the above Jew-
ish deputies as members of three im-
portant committees, as a token of their
gratitude.

With 125th Co. G., Finkel landed at
St. Naizer, France. From that point
they joined the 10th Training area at
Champlitt. At Champlitt Finkel was
transferred to the 128th Regiment of
the 64th Brigade, part of the now
famous 32nd Division, with whom he
advanced to Alsace Loraine. Theirs
was the first American Division on
German soil. Here, on a defensive
line, he spent two months in the
trenches. From Alsace Lorraine they
were sent to Chateau Thierry. They
went into the lines on July 30th at
Urque to relieve the 28th Pennsyl-
vania National Guard. Here, after
four days of hard fighting, they
reached Vesle. They forded a river
and advanced to Fisme. It was one
of the first real offensive engage-
ments of hand to hand lighting. Sergt.
Finkel says they forged ahead so rap-
idly that their artillery and guns
couldn't keep up with them. They
kept the grey hordes 19 kilometers
ahead. They captured the town of
Fisme practically with their bare
fists.
"That was the toughest battle we
were in," admitted Sergt. Finkel.
"We were up against it, no artillery,
no machine guns. In five days we
had but three meals, and that con:
sisted of ''hard tack." It was impos-
sible for the supply trains to keep up
with us. Relief came on the 5th of
August. After a ten-days' rest we
were sent to the Soissons front."
It was then that Gen. Mangin
called upon the 32nd Division for as-
sistance in breaking the German line.
Finkel was wounded at Jouvigny a
few (lays later, during a battle that
took its toll in 6,000 lives. Ile was
sent to Base Hospital No. 27, and
was operated on three times within
seven weeks. On October 10th he
joined the 128th Co. H, and remained
in active service until the signing of
the armistice. He returned to this
country on the "George Washington,"
May 15, and is now back home in
Detroit.
