EVENT CULMINATES BIG DRIVE FOR MEMBERS What promises to be one of the largest communal and social events in the history of the Detroit Jewish community, will take place on Sun- day, March 30th, at the Hotel Statler, the occasion being the successful conclusion of the Thousand-Member- hip of Pisgah Lodge, Inde- pendent Order B'Nai Brith. It will be recalled that several hun- dred Jewish citizens of Detroit were formally inducted into the local lodge in the class initiation held on Jan- uary 19th. Over 500 members of the order and their families participated in the brilliant banquet following the initiation ceremonies. Visiting mem- bers of sister lodges in various parts of the country who attended as guests voted it one of the most successful events in the history of the order and predicted that it would be a long time before any lodge would surpass that class initiation of Pisgah Lodge. Several enthusiastic leaders of Pisgah Lodge predicted that be- fore the year 1919 had passed into history, Detroit would witness a still greater class initiation. NO. 16. 100TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATED THIS WEEK - - B'NAI BRITH TO OUTFIT ROOMS AT SANITARIUM The plight of a member of the New York—Former Ambassador Henry Alorgenthan, president of the Free Synagogue since its institution twelve years ago, has tendered his resignation. Air. Morgenthan's ac- tion is due to a disagreement with Rabbi Stephen S. \Vise on the ques- tion of Zionism. Mr. Alorgenthait's letter of resignation to the executive committee of the congregation is as follows: .. .Niter twelve years of incumbency of the office of president of the Free Synagogue of New York I am im- pelled to resign that office. Much as I have enjoyed the honor of filling this position and the happy and in- spiring association with its rabbi, Dr. Wise, I feel that our views (1 Zion- ism. in the advocacy of which he is 011C of the leathers, are so divergent and apparently' irreconcilable, that it seems necessary for me to withdraw keno what may be called the lay leadership of the congregation.
