A NCliedit AWith Periatlleal Cotter CLIFTON AVINUL - CINCINNATI 20, 01110 PAGE ELEVEI` THE JEWISH CHRONICLE interest. The first volume will deal with "Who's Who"—the second with "What's What"—among the Jews of Detroit. "WHO'S WHO"—Volume I , will contain biog- raphical sketches of the many, many Jews who have played a part in building up the present- day Detroit. Not only will it discuss the ca- reers of those emminent men of whom we are all proud and with whom we are all familiar but it will provide intimate biographies of a vast number of worth-while men, who are but little known to the general public. In this way it will become a handy, necessary, accurate reference book; much in demand, no doubt, in libraries, newspaper offices, etc. Detroit will be proud of the Jewish Community Blue Book AS A JEW you are proud. You are proud of your own people—their glorious history, their no- ble traditions, their lofty ideals, their practical achievements. You are proud of your past; you are confident of your present; your are hopeful of your future. A WELL KNOWN JOURNALIST remarked the other day that we Jews are notable among the peoples because we combine imagination with practicability. He was right. The imagina- tion of the East and the progressiveness of the West are merged in the American Jew. We in Detroit—more than in any other city typify the spirit of American Jewry. TO BE SURE you are interested—deeply interest- ed—in the ambitions and achievements of our people in all lands. You thrill at their exploits in Australia. You glory in their ambitions in Palestine. You marvel at their re-awakening in the Central empires. You enthuse at their diplomatic conquests in Italy. But after all, you are most concerned with their standing here at home. THE JEWS OF DETROIT, we may proudly recog- nize, have not dimmed the luster of their bril- liant history. In public service they are lead- ers as well as soldiers. They have conceived big things, and they have led the way in their fulfillment. In art, in politics, in business, in law, in letters, in philosophy, in social service —have they played their part and played it well. FROM TIME TO TIME you have read of the work of these men. Now and then the achievements of some of them have fallen under the calcium- glare of publicity—but all too often their rec- ords have been left to obscurity. The Jewish Community Blue Book, if it did nothing else but give rightful recognition to these earnest men and women would justify it's purpose. THE JEWISH COMMUNITY BLUE BOOK OF DETROIT will soon be published—even now it is in course of preparation. It will be issued in two volumes. Physically it will be9 credit to any library. Simple in effect, artiAic in ex- ecution, it will be a publication worthy of your "WHAT'S WHAT''—the second volume—will be a fitting companion to "Who's Who." It will provide much information, often desired and seldom obtainable, relating to the Jewish popu- lation of our city. "What's What" will con- tain a carefully-edited directory of the organi- zations made up of Jews and of those minister- ing to the Jewish needs of our city. It will inform you of the men and women who are back of the organized movements of the mo- ment. It will give proper recognition to the religious, social and philanthropic forces that are bring about a re-awakening among our people. TO BE SURE the compilation of these facts repre- sents a very vast work. It demands research of avenues which have long been overlooked. It requires an expenditure of money which has never before been regarded as justifiable, but the publishers of the Jewish Community Blue Book feel that it's production will be a distinct asset both to the public and to our own com- munity, and that the cost and labor involved will be justified. A LARGE STAFF .OF EDITORS has long been working on the matter which will find publi- cation in the Jewish Community Blue Book. They are men of the highest journalistic attain- ments—publicists, rabbis, educators, journal- ists, etc. Their enlistment in this work is a good augury of the character of the Jewish Community Blue Book. THE PUBLISHERS GIVE THIS advance an- nouncement of the Jewish Community Blue Book because they feel that it is an undertak- ing with which the Jewish population should be familiar. They feel that it's scope is so vast, it's purpose so worthy, it's interest so general, that it assumes the character of a civic undertaking. You will be proud of the Jewish Community Blue Book.
