NEW ERA OF MUTUAL
UNDERSTANDING SEEN

The Jew'sh men and women of all

Michigan, and even the boys and girls,

Michigan and the United States will
be swept by the biggest philanthropic
fund-raising campaign in the history
of humanity during the week of No-
vember II. The United War Work
drive will be started to raise $170,500,-
0 in the country for war relief work
of the Jewish 1Velfare Board, the Y.
M. C. A. and Y. \V. C. A., the Knights
of Columbus, the War Camp Commu-
nity Service, the Salvation Army and
the American Library Association.
Michigan's share in this $170,500,000
national drive will be a drive for $7,-
500,01X0, to be carried on by the Mich-
igan Patriotic Fund, which represents
all these interests, and which is sus-
tained by the organized war workers
id all faiths.
In the launching of this drive the
Defloit Patriotic Fund idea, uniting
all faiths in one grand labor of benev-
olence, takes form as a state idea and
also as a national idea.

are mobilizing under the enthusiasm
of patriotic leaders to take a big part
in the United \\'ar work drive which
is to sweep the state and the country
during the week of November II.
Representative Jewish men and wo-
men of every Nlichigan community
are giving their services for the state
work, which will he carried on by the
new Michigan Patriotic Fund organ-
:zation. This was organized by Gov.
Albert E. Sleeper after the brilliant
success of the Detroit Patriotic Fund
drive last May showed the advantage
of fusing all fund raising campaigns
for war welfare work.
The share of labor performed by
our patriotic Jewish people in that
Detroit drive and in all other local
drives in Michigan, and the credit
generously accorded them by their
Gentile comrades in this cause, makes
it certain that the Jews of Nlichigan
will again distinguish themselves by
zeal in gathering these humanitarian
,funds, and by generosity in giving.

The national unit drive woo organ-
ized under the direct inspiration of
President Wilson, writing as Com-
mander-in-Chief to Raymond R. Fos-
dick, Commissioner of Training Camp
Activities, President Wilson urged
that these seven activities, while their
individuality should be preserved for
special service, were engaged in one
common activity, and their common
service should lie wrought in the
closest co-operation.
The work in Michigan will be car-
ried on from the headquarters at 115-
117 \Vest Fort street, where the labors
of all the counties will be directed.
The share of Wayne county in the to-
tal state fund of $7,500,000 is $3,1011,-
000. 'This will be paid out of the De-
troit Patriotic Fund. To make the
payment of Detroit's quota as easy as
possible. the week will be taken up in
Detroit by a campaign for new mem-
bers of the Detroit Patriotic Fund, and
it campaign to brim; up all arrears in
payment by' present members.
