munity.

Through the organization of the
Detroit Patriotic Fund by a group of

representative Detroit men, future
campaigns to raise money for Jewish
and other war funds and public wel-
fare work in NVayne county will be
combined in one great drive, staged
once it year.

'Ellis will do away with a multi-
plicity of campaigns, which have

proved burdensome to the public, will
situ e time for giver and solicitor, and
will eliminate all waste. It means,

too, that every dollar raised will he
used for the purpose given, for it is
expected that the interest alone will
be more than sufficient to pay the
cost of collecting and distributing the
funds.

The federation plan, as it is known,
has been adopted with satisfactory
results by several American cities and

has worked out very successfully in
Canada. It is a war - time move in the

interest of conservation and greater
efficiency, and is simply the applica-
tion of modern business methods .in

the collection of these much needed
funds. Chicago and Cleveland are
among the cities that use this plan.
Colninlitis, 0., with a population of
225,000 raised $3,000,000 in live days
about a month ago by this method,
and there were 003100 givers.

Campaign Begins May 6.

Detroit's 1918 campaign, embracing
the entire county, will start Nfay 6 and
will last a week. It will be staged in
connection with the national Red
Cross war fund drive, and the local

"give once for all."

Detroit to Lead.

Detroit is the first large city in the
country to combine her patriotic and
philanthropic efforts in one campaign.
For this reason the coming drive will
be watched with interest by the coun-
