SYNAGOGUE

This assembly i, unique in the history
of American Jewry. It is felt that at
this time in particular all energy must
be mustered to strengthen the Jewish
faith amongst the Jewish people. The
United Synagogue, which is a feder-
ation of Orthodox and Conservative
congregations throughout the United
States and Canada, has been engaged
in synagogue and school extension
work. It is publishing text books for
working out methods for dealing with
the various religious problems that con-
front the Jewish people. The repre-
sentative Jews of this country are now
being called together to confer on the
problems that confront their co-relig-
ionists.

ple's Auxiliary Orchestra, which is be-
ing formed, will appreciate w hat is
being done by the organization in a
musical way. 10r. Kopelson, the
director, is enthusiastic about the
'cork of those who have turned out
thus far, but wishes more string in-
strument players to join. AI r. Kopel-
son enjoys a splendid reputation as
musician, instructor, and director, and
those who play string instruments
should grasp the opportunity of play-
ing under a man who is musically
correct. Those now in the orchestra
are enthusiastic and urge others to
join. Nowhere is there offered a finer
opportunity or more pleasant sur-
roundings for rehearsals than in the
vestry rooms of the synagogue with
its new Steinway Grand Plano. Play-
ers of orchestral instruments should
take advantage of this splendid op-
portunity, Get in touch with Mr.
Alan Kopelson at his studio, 160 Med-
bury (North 5747-R), or better still,
bring your instrument and meet him
at rehearsal Sunday afternoon at 3

Red Cross Work.
The quality, and quantity of the work
turned out by the Red Cross Unit, at
Shaarey Zedeck Synagogue, under the
auspices of the Ladies' Auxiliary, has
been given great credit. In addition,
several large boxes of knit goods have
been sent to the boys at Camp Custer.

Oscar Abraham, a leading merchant
of Harrodsburg, Ky., died there on
Dec. 25. Ile was 60 years old and a
native of Frankfurt-on-the-Main, Ger-
many. His daughter, Hattie, is a
clerk in the office of the Court of
Appeals at Frankfort, and a son,
Henry, is in the quartermaster's de-
partment at Camp Taylor.
