The sixteenth animal Citizens' in-
terdenominational illanksgiving Ser-
vice, which took place at the Den runt
opera house on Thanksgiving morn-
ing, called forth an audience of 3,500
people, filling every available place in
the opera house. In the service ton
religious denominations participated,
as follows:
Congregationalist, Unitarian, Uni-
versalist, Methodist, Presbyterian,
Jewish, Baptist, Episcopalian, Chris-
tian, Roman Catholic.
The chairman of the service, Rabbi
Leo M. Franklin of Temple Beth 1k!,
is the only minister among the found-
ers of the service still living in De-
troit.
The sermon was to have been
preached by 1)r. Stephen S. Wise, but
because of the death of his mother,
he was prevented from being present.
In his stead the address was given
by Dr. Gains Glenn Atkins, pastor of
the First Congregational Church of
Detroit. He gave a masterful treat-
ment of his subject, "The New
Meaning of an Old Day."
