9 •THE JEWISH CHRONICLE If SOCIETY THE COSTUME TAILLEUR SUITS ARE AS DIS")CINC- TIVE AS GOWNS. Mrs. Morse Goldman has re- turned from a visit with Mr. and Mrs. M. H. Goldman in Toledo. While chic and appropriate for their purpose, street Ostumes heretofore have been least/ interesting in any fashion show/of imported models. This autumn.l•the rule does not hold good. WitV the gorgeous and varied colors, wonderful metallic effects and the super i b brocades, the two and three piefe costume can well com- pete witlOb'e:gown for many dressy occasio . The fre nch' designers have chosen their cokt and suit materials from fab- rics of 'elc-gance and beauty. Velvet satin, - 1 '=host of beautiful velvet fin- ished , 00lens, including suede, velour de lai4, and glossy satin-like woolens. And for trimmings there is a prodigal use of',.. furs with embroidery to sup- plant. • All deigners pretty generally agree on a straight, narrow silhouette. Within this straight and narrow line, however, many charming varieties of styles.atid periods are included. One designer 'piraws. inspiration from the straight kimona with its rich embroid- ery; another leans to the Directoire model, but that again is straight; still another turns to the Middle Ages for inspiration, but he, too, comes back to the straight garment. Yet this vari- ety in designing, though it gives but one silhouette, furnishes infinite vari- ety in the details of costuming. There is a tendency to tighten the silhouette at the waist, but the tight belt is not featured extensively at the opening and B. Seigel Co. does not expect to show many varieties of the accepted straight silhouette. The long, loosely girdled coat of Russian persuasion is seen among this estab- lishment's most handsome costumes, this design being admirably suited to the note of elegance sounded by ma- terials and rich furs. Coats may be of almost any length, but most of them come to the knee or are three-quarter length.—Adv. . 1 601 • • OTTO A.
