W. J. DOUGHTY ADDS PERSON-
ALITY TO PROVEN WORTH
OF FRANKLIN CAR.

New York.—A crowd of from 5,000
to 6,000 gathered outside the Hebrew
Actors' Club, Second avenue, rear
First street, when the funeral of
Maurice Morrison, the noted German
and Yiddish tragedian was held. A
procession was formed and the casket
was carried past the various cast side
theaters in which Morrison won fame.
Three hundred children chanted He-
brew hymns.
Captain O'Connell, of the Delancey
street station, sent a detail of thirty
policemen, who escorted the body to
the Williamsburg bridge. The funeral
procession then proceeded to the Cy-
press Hill cemetery, where the inter-
ment took place.
As a lad of sixteen in Rumania,
where he was born sixty years ago in
the little town of Galitz, he began
composing poetry.
Later, through his histrionic talent,
he attracted royal notice. He was in-
vited to the royal palace while at Bu-
charest by Queen Carmen Sylva, who
requested that he act before the king.
Mr. Morrison came to this country
at the behest of Heinrich Conrad of
the Irving Place theater. In all of his
Shakespearean characterizations Mr.
Morrison played the leading part in
German, the other parts being given
in Yiddish.

An automobile man who radiates in
congenial fashion the dynamic spirit
of Detroit and its marvelous progress
is W. J. Doughty, the energetic De-
troit distributor of Franklin motor
cars. He represents the clean-cut,
progressive type of modern business
man whose philosophy is Success.
And a wonderful success has he made
in his field of activity. A man of thor-
ough experience in the automobile
industry, he chose the Franklin car
three years ago from among the many
in the market.

EDUCATIONAL

has written a book entitled "A Day
• With the Baby," proceeds of which
will be devoted to babies of soldiers of
Chicago. The book is dedicated to
Mrs. Stein's sons, Charles and Philip.
No attempt has been made to pre-
sent the subject of baby care or feed-
ing in a technical manner, but under
the heading, "The Daily Routine,"
most of the conditions arising in the
life of the average baby have been
designated.
A chapter is given to the nursery,
another to the bassinet, another to the
bath, etc.
Dr. Ludwig Simon, a member of the
staff of the Michael Reese Hospital,
assisted Mrs. Stein in compiling the
data.
Mrs. Stein is the author of another
book of interest to club women, which
portrays in pen pictures and sketches
the work of representative Jewish
women of the city. She is a member
of the National Municipal League,
Mothers' Aid of the Chicago Lying-in
Hospital, of the Players' Club, De-.
borah Dramatic Club, woman's aux-
iliary to Chicago Hebrew Institute.

W. J. DOUGHTY

This car has proven to be one of
the most popular machines in Detroit
by reason of. its repeated record per-
formances. This is evidenced in the
300 per cent increase in sales over last
year. Orders for the Franklin car
since. August 1st now total over two
hundred. Many prominent Detroiters
drive this car. It is a distinctive
model and furnishes a relief from
the monotony of most makes that
fallow conventional designs. So many
world's records have been smashed
by the Franklin that it may be safe to
say that it holds every world's record.
Mr. Doughty becomes more enthu-
siastic over the Franklin every day.
He has injected his forceful and
pleasing personality into every
transaction consummated by him and
has followed this up with proofs of
performance so that his every state-
ment and assertion concerning the
Franklin is now taken as reliable and
authentic to the last degree. His

Henry Morgenthau, ex-Ambassador to
Turkey, who left last June on a Jewish
relief mission to Palestine and the East
and later went to France on a special
mission for this Government, returned
to this country on Wednesday. While
abroad he visited the trenches at Lens
and Ypres. He was accompanied on
the trip to France by Mrs. Morgenthau,
who was decorated while in Paris with
the Legion of Honor in recognition of
relief work performed while she was in
Constantinople.
