Arena Laughs at "Old Sol" and Detroiters Enjoy Ice
Skating in Summer

Who ever thought of ice skating in
the summer time? A few years ago no
one outside of the select few in the
large eastern theaters and winter gar-
dens—or rather summer gardens—even
had as much as a look in at this great
sport. Now right here in Detroit we
may all take part and enjoy to the very
limit society's latest here-to-stay vogue.
It remained for the mangificent new
Arena to set the pace for all ice skating
establishments in the matter of early
skating. When kIngr. Harry Z. Brown
first decided to operi the doors on Sept.
tenther 15th there were many who said
it couldn't be done. The new machin-
ery and very latest in refrigeration did
the trick, however, and the result has
been a splendid ice surface ever since
the doors opened.
Those who enjoy skating, those who
are going tokate this season and there
will be thousands of new skate fans,.

Dancing every day at

PALAIS DE DANSE

Of particular and vital interest to the
Jewish women of Detroit is the great
Food Exposition to be held at the Belle
Isle Coliseum beginning Monday, Sept.
17th and extending to Sept. 29th. In
view of the prevalent agitation for food .
conservation and greater efficiency in
food management in the home this ex-
position will be of inestimable value
from an educational and practical stand-
point. Lectures on canning, preserving,
and other subjects relating to the prep-
aration of foods will be given free each
• day. A cooking school will be held daily
at 3 p. m. under the direction of Sher-
wood P. Snyder, recognized food ex-
pert. This feature is also free to wo-
men attendants.
Practically every• brand of foods and
beverages will be exhibited and demon-
' strations made in over sixty booths
which will be attractively conducted
This display will be a revelation as it
will disclose for the first time to many
the possibilities of economy and greater
satisfaction in home provision. Sam-
ples and souvenirs will be distributed by
many of the concerns taking part in the
exposition.
Other features include Miss Bertha
Meyers' Ladies' Band and the other
amusements offered by the Coliseum

for the vogue for ice skating is growing
as popular as dancing, and people who
enjoy witnessing something different
should avail themselves of the oppor-
tunity to see ice skating with an outside
temperature of 80 degrees in the shade.
It really is a treat.
An innovation at the Arena this year
and one that is going to make the in-
stitution one of the most popular places
in Detroit is the new Rose Room. Here
dancing will be enjoyed. Skaters may

their diversion, to suit their mood, Th e

the coziest and daintiest little dancing
rooms in the city. No extra charge is

Saturday mornings have been laid
aside for the children. Here parents
may send the "kiddies" without fear,
and certain that they are continually in
a refined and wholesome atmosphere.
