RELIEF FOR SALONIKA JEWS.

The French Government appropriated
the sum of 120,000 francs for the relief
of the great distress prevailing in Saloni-
ka, in consequence of the great fire
which destroyed the whole Jewish quar-
ter. The chief rabbi of Salonika tele-
graphed to London that all the syna-
gogues and other- Jewish institutions
were consumed by the flames and that
the Jewish population was in dire dis-
tress. The Lord Mayor of London
opened a fund for the sufferers and Sir
Stuart Samuel, the new president of the
Board of Deputities, issued an appeal to
all Jews to support this fund. A confer-
ence was also held in Paris and attend-
ed by the leading Jews there, for the
purpose of raising a similar fund there.

Kadisha, Temple Israel, of Cleveland.
Ohio., after practically half a century
of orthodoxy, has decided to become a

HONOR JUBILEE OF JEWISH
ARTIST.

FORD OWNERS' ATTENTION

German Jewry is now celebrating the
seventieth birthday anniversary of the
well-known Jewish artist, Max Lieber-
man. On account of the war, no public
demonstration has been arranged, but
the Berlin Art Academy instituted a
large art exhibit in honor of the cele-
brant and the press is devoting much
space to the achievements of the great
painter. A number of stipends for art
students, bearing Lieberman's name,
have been established by several organ-
izations and individuals, on honor of the
occasion,
