RUSSIAN JEWISH BANKER EX
ONERATED OF TREASON
CHARGE.

Petrograd.—The new Russian gov-
ernment has finally found it pos-
sible to free Banker Dmitri Ruben-
stein of the grave charge which was
made against him by the old Russian
regime, under which Ile was impris-
oned. The charges against the Jew-
ish banker made several months ago
created a sensation in the press of
the world. The czar's government
charged the well-known Jewish mil-
lionaire with treason. It was said
his business was against the interests
of the Russian government. In spite
of the fact that the charges against
Rubenstein were openly supported in
the Duma by such a liberal person as
Milyukov, and the additional fact that
the banker was personally acquainted
with several members of the govern-
ment who were under suspicion, the
Jews still believed him innocent, re-
garding him as a victim of anti-
Semitism.
It now appears that the faith of the
Jews in Rubenstein was well founded,
for he has been completely exonerated
and stands before all the world an
innocent man.

Rabbi Herbert S. Goldstein, of the
Institutional Synagogue, was a mem-
ber of the committee which received
the Russian commission on Wednes-
day, August 14, and also a member of
the committee which received the
Belgian commission on Tuesday
morning, August 21.
